hi everybody hope you had a lovely christmas. my elderly uncle was sent to a childrens home/school in leicester between 1934-1936, his memory of the past he blocks alot but says he can remember a matron, gymnasium and he wore a uniform with a black and yellow tie. Leicester archives have unfortunately not been able to find out any information so i was wondering if anyone knew of such a place or has any information they could give me? i would greatly appreciate it.
thanks
helen :-)

hi

I think that you are probably talking about the Leicester Boys Home off the Syston Road. Their records should have been passed on to Leicester Records Office.

This shows the now sadly neglected Polebrook House, which was the Desford Boys School you mention. Might your uncle recognise it if he was there?

If you are thinking of places outside the city like Desford, have you looked at Countesthorpe Cottage Homes?

I used to drive past the homes on my way to work in the 70s.
