delighted to have been of use! Alnwick's a good bit north of Gateshead so you wouldn't have found that out locally, but there are many keen researchers up here - I only put the programme on here to keep more people informed of a new facility,

Join the Newcastle or Lancashire library online and you will find him.....or he may be found in the N ewes paper articles on this site......failing this I could pm you the front page if you wish.

I deleted my original thread on the Genealogy board by mistake - but here for anyone interested is the programme for the new Alnwick Family History Society.

Alnwick Family History dates for 2014

The schedule of meetings for Alnwick Family History Society has now been confirmed.

Whilst you have your spanking-new 2014 diary to hand, we suggest you make a note of them all!

All evening meetings are on the FIRST TUESDAY of the month. They begin at 7.15pm with refreshments in Bailiffgate Museum, Alnwick. (speaker begins at 7.30pm). Entry is free to members of the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society www.ndfhs.org.uk. Non-members will be asked to make a voluntary contribution of £2.50. Refreshments are provided for a small donation to costs.

4th March 2014 “Getting to Grips with Family History” Jane Glass
Jane is a well-known speaker on Family History and was requested as our launch address by branch members. She will have many useful tips for both beginners and established family historians.

1st April “Something Interesting from my Family History” –Member Discussion
Everyone is invited to take 3-4 minutes to share an interesting, useful or even shocking fact from their family tree.

6th May “120,000 years of Family History” Steve Ridpath
Steve will be known to several members from his work with the U3A. He promises a fascinating new take on Family History. He will ask question such as “Parish records, the census and then what for ordinary people?”

3rd June “Making sense of the Census” Anthea Lang
The census is one of the most valuable tools for any family historian, but it is also full of tiger-traps for the unwary. Anthea’s excellent talk will help you tread with care.

1st July “Tracing your History through Freemasonry” Steve Newman
Steve has recently had a 4-page article in the “Who Do you think you Are?” magazine, and we are delighted to welcome him to AFHS. to discuss this often-overlooked source of family information.

2nd September “Researching your family’s involvement in WW1” David Thompson
With so much topical interest in World War one, we are pleased to have secured David Thompson, a popular speaker from the Western Front Association.

7th October “A photo (or item) that means a lot to me” -Member Discussion
Please everyone bring along something from one of your relatives that you can share with us. It can be small or large (but a piano may prove tricky).

4th November “Border Reiver Families” Andy Griffin
Andy is a speaker and writer on many aspects of local history. He will help us decide if these families who had a key role in local history were murderers or family men just earning a (dis)honest living

Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing you in March.

Dudley George
Chairman
Alnwick FHS
