there are some dimwits on this site who report for no reason - on Find Ancestors today I was reported - someone was asking if anyone knew how servicemen stationed in India in the 1800's travelled back to the UK. I suggested they came back the way they went out, by a British ship - and someone reported my posting? work that out :-S

Won't work, and the reason it won't is because 'liking' or 'not liking' a post will become a condition of remaining friends with someone.... can you imagine the PMs flying around "Please 'like' the offensive joke because after all I... helped you with a look up, or sent you a birthday greeting, or know where you live! lol

I don't report out of spite. If I find something offensive or tasteless I will report it and I don't expect or need anyone, other than GR admin, to agree with me :-) I don't do it often but I do so when I feel strongly enough about something. i wouldn't want to see that right denied to anyone just because of majority numerical support, after all a 'majority' voted IN this government.....

I have never seen anything truly offensive on this site.

Andrew I think the problem there would be if the post was very offensive it would show until enough dislikes. I think GR have a problem that is not easy to solve. They can´t automatically remove RR posts because it could be a vindictive RR but they don´t want to leave offensive posts up until they can renew. Having a like /dislike button could be good but only to those who see the post. if they kept the RR button as well.

I know the GR community are good the time I swore on line (mother) I was immediately asked to remove the word both on the thread and by PM. which I did and apologized.
I personally think the best way to stop misuse of RR is to have moderators but for a site as large as GR that also brings problems ..if they use members, that is open to both abuse and the accusation of abuse. should they employ people then the membership goes up.

Difficult eh ?

Add it to the Suggestions Board Andrew - you never know, it might get included in the next 'upgrade' when ever that happens :-)

Perhaps GR would care to introduce a like/dislike button on the threads so people could show their feelings about it. At least that way we would know if people really didn't like a post. If the count went negative, then it gets removed. If positive it stays for everyone else to enjoy.

Bet they don't. I'm not holding my breath.
