He was referred on by the falls clinic to take initially chair based exercises to strengthen his muscles.

He did struggle as due to his Alzheimer he obviously wasn't understanding some of what he had to do. He is a quiet guy anyway and didn't speak up.

The lady taking the group of 10 was great she went around the group and helped them if they were having problems to get themselves in the right position.

It was a very gentle but I did notice he was favoring his right leg more than his left one. We spoke about this later and he said his left leg is very week ,surprised me as he hasnt had a stroke but it must be because of his body dementia.

He has to do homework and do the exercises at least twice at home too ,so we can do the together which will help me too with my arthritic right knee.

Impressed though with the older folk support in our area, pity though with the wait to access them .

Glad you live in a good support area Shirley as it can help enormously and should give your husband extra motivation.

We were also lucky to be able to get exercise classes for Dad and it's good for them to be in a group too.

Carry on the exercises in your home and you both will benefit by strengthening your leg muscles, so less likely to fall. Keep up the good work!

Any kind of support for the elderly and infirm is great news, altho as you say Shirley, takes such a time to get into these things due to demand. I hope the class will help your hubby and you too to stay mobile

The exercises do help a lot.

I had to join a class (about ten years ago) after a heart attack.

Most of the exercises were done while sitting in a chair, if standing you could hold onto the chair.

The staff at the centre made a video (we could buy it for the cost of a blank tape) which most of us bought to use at home. We called it the "chairaerobics" tape.

I went for about a year, I think they kept me there a long time because I was helping many people with more problems than I had!

It's good that you're doing them together, most exercise is boring by yourself :-)
