I went to bed last night hoping that the police would find him safe and well and I was shocked to wake up this morning to read this news :-(

Police investigating the disappearance of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular have found a body and detained a person, understood to be his mother.

The body of a young boy was found in Fife shortly before midnight, police said, and they "strongly believe this to be the body of Mikaeel".

Sources told the BBC that his mother, named locally as Rosdeep, was detained but police have not confirmed this.

Poor little lad, may he rest in peace now.

I am so sad that again a child has been lost to the world and it seems his parent might be to blame. He has a twin sister and other siblings, what on earth will it do to them to know their mother didn't keep him safe but may be responsible for his death.

News report 1.29 am that a body has been found in Fife and that someone has been arrested

So sad RIP

Praying hard that this little boy is found safe and will be returned to his Mummy soon.

Hope he comes home safe and sound

AnnCardiff - I asked myself those same questions, however, according to ITV, forensics are still in the family home and they understand that police are investigating Mikaeel Kular's family background. His mother, they say, is estranged from her husband and from Mikaeel's biological father.

It also appears that the family lived in Kirkcaldy, just across the River Forth from Edinburgh, until a couple of years ago. Neighbours there say there was one incident where the children seem to have been home alone. A male relative appeared, he couldn't get in, and the police were called.

Police have said that at present there is no evidence of foul play, that said, there are no sightings of Mikaeel, police have no suspects, and with the current weather conditions, concerns continue to grow for his safety.

At this precise moment hundreds of police with the help of nearly a thousand civilians are currently carrying out a widespread search of the areas surrounding where he lived.

I worked for several years in the Granton area of Edinburgh, that area is only a short distance from the area where 3 year old Mikaeel Kular went missing. It is a waterfront area of docks, reclaimed land, and industrial premises. It stretches several miles along the Firth of Forth and there are lots of warehouses, industrial premises including the old gas works area, plus several derelict areas, so it will be a large and difficult area to search.

Ann I have to agree with you, looking at our little three year old last night I know he would not put his coat on to go outside, he is now putting his shoes on by himself (on the wrong feet sometimes) If it was his father then please God he is safe and well.

I have to say, the whole things sounds fishy to me - where is his father? has he taken him? would a little one think to put a coat on?

I have no children of my own, but if any of my nieces, nephews, grand nieces or grand nephews - went missing I would have been very anxious & distressed.

Dear Lord, keep this child safe and sound,
let no harm come to him before he is found.
He has gone missing from his family home,
and those who love him are missing him,
So please return him home safe and well.
To that end help all who are searching for him,
and guide them swiftly to where he can be found - Amen

Poor little lad. I do hope that he is found safe. Such nasty weather to be out at night.

Our little three year old grandson came to see us last night, the thought of him in this situation is just to horrific to comprehend. I hope the dear little boy is found safe and well.
