Am I wrong in thinking how daft this is?

I realise that Kay what I was just thinking was how daft it is that there are no exceptions or special circumstances, we presume that come about 4/5 months he might just be able to do a few days work (perhaps not) and could "earn" his "pay" I don't think he will be able to do a full week and all we hear about is the folk fiddling the system . The other Big problem , which shouldn't come into the issue but does has just been mentioned by Pork Pie .... redundancy!! there maybe a number of redundancies coming up this year he is a civil engineer so depends on the building trade so fingers crossed they get plenty of work. |

I agree with you all and probably Phyll is right about insurance didn't think of that... just seems a shame something couldn't be worked out , ah well he will just have to enjoy the time off with his new little baby. PC he has already talked to work but at least 6 mths it is. :-) |

Usually if you are signed off sick you cannot return to work until your doctor signs you off as fit. |

I think if you are off sick then that's it. Something to do with insurance I believe. Mu daughter has been off for 8 months. She wanted to go into work but they said no because you are a risk. |

You have to be sick for several consecutive days before you qualify for sick pay. It used to be 4 days, I don't know if it's changed. The rules have to be abided by your son's employers. |

Yes will certainly mention it but what with mortgage etc and 2 kiddies I don't think he could cope with the stress of worry of not having a full pay, but time will tell. It's a shame that the powers that be can't see the sense in the proposition of part work why pay full wages for no input. Ah well what do I know about it. :-S |

Son had a very serious operation in Dec. and has been told he will be off work for at least 6 mths...OK! .... However trying to be helpful he asked, if he felt up to it, would he be able to work say 3 days a week and get himself back into working slowly...Yes no problem, except he would only be paid for 3 days . Why not pay him for the 3 days work and 2 days sick each week, he's still on sick leave and help his office? Alas no..... so as he can't afford to get only 3 days pay he will be taking the full 6 mths off!! |
