One of my ancestors was a barmaid on the 1911 census, would it be safe to assume that she lived at the pub when the census was taken, or is there another way to find out where she lived if she didn't?

Thanks Ann. Rose Amelia Thomas born Kent 1892, her Father is Charles Thomas and we know there was family issues which may have caused her to get a live in job and we are just trying to see if we can get to the truth after all these years.

It wouldn´t be safe to presume that she lived at the pub. BUT if she was on the census in 1911 at the pub address then the chances are she did live in. I wouldn´t bank on it she might have just been there the night the census was taken. (late hours)

Edit to say that I have found a relative at 2 addresses the 1 she lived at and the 1 she was at the time of the census.

In general the details recorded should have been of people present at each dwelling at midnight at the end of this day, although in later years the rules were clarified to include those, such as night shift workers, who returned to the dwelling the following morning, having not been counted elsewhere.

1911 Census Sunday 2nd April 1911

So unless you can find her elsewhere, she probably lived in.
ADDED - there were several other Barmaids and a Potboy also listed!

Mind you, she could have been living somewhere else, and was included in the pub entry as she stayed there over night.
