Never been but thinking of having a holiday there this year
at Rhyl.
Due to health issues etc we would set off by coach to our
destination, one draw for me would be the 2 train excursions
and the closeness of shopping centres etc from our hotel and
seems to be wheelchair friendly.

Would appreciate any input from our Welsh friends or those who have
been to Rhyl. Thank you.

Emma :-)

Hi Emms <3

Brilliant that you are thinking about coming to Wales. I've been to Rhyl, but a long time ago- about 36 years ago, I think. We went there for a day, when we were staying near Prestatyn, just down the coast.

It was nice, but I think I saw on a tv programme a few years ago, that it is not what it once was.

Your best bet is to look up as much info as possible. Especially if you have health issues that you will have to be concerned about. :-) :-)

Thanks Jem and Merlin.

The hotel in Rhyl will be our base, a full day is taken up
by going on Ffestiniog railway going through Snowdonia
National Park, another day is the Llanberis Lakeland
Railway passing the 13th century Dolbadarn Castle.

Hi Emms

As Merls says LLandudno is lovely place to visit, do what I did last year with my nephews and go on the taboggon on the Great Orm you will just love that pmsl , Betws-y-Coed is a nice place to visit you have to try the fish and chips shop there just on the corner by the bridge. As for LLandberis its a lovely place and the train ride is beautiful and if you get a clear day even better......

You will enjoy no matter what , its such a lovely area Emms :-) <3

You will really enjoy the train rides Emma.

I stayed in Pwllheli (not very far from where Tec lives) about 15 years ago, and my friend and I went on the Train that goes right up Snowdon itself! It was amazing! Being above the clouds and looking DOWN on light aircraft flying below us!

The scenery in North Wales is breathtaking! I love all the counties of Wales, each having it's own beauty, but the ruggedness of the North is outstanding!

It is absolutely freezing up there though! You need to dress for an arctic expedition!
:-D :-D :-D

Long time since we went but North Wales is lovely and those trips sound great , we have done the rail trip and remember it as being great. Strangely when we went to Llandudno we weren't keen so I suppose it depends on all sorts of factors, accommodation, weather etc. Incidentally we have had great holidays in south Wales too.

If it is good for your needs with wheelchair access etc Emma, go for it. :-)

Emma :-D :-D Think you will really enjoy Rhyl and your trips out. You are a lucky girl.

I agree with everyone that Llandudno is very easy to navigate and some nice shops. It is stuck between two wonderful headlands (Great and Little Orme) and is only 8 feet above sea level at highest point!!!! And two beaches, the smaller one connected to Alice Liddel (Alice in Wonderland). And Mersey is spot on - that dry ski slope on the Great Orme is a must for all holidaymakers - no problem hooking up a wheel chair to ski lift :-D :-D :-D

Didn't we have a lovely time
The day we went to Bangor
A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way
And all for under a pound, you know
That on the way back I cuddled with Jack
And we opened a bottle of cider
Singing a few of our favourite songs
As the wheels went around

Do you recall the thrill of it all
As we walked along the seafront
Then on the sand we heard a brass band
That made a tiddly tum ta ra ra
Elsie and me had one cup of tea
Then we took a paddling boat out
Thrashing away as we sailed round the bay
As the wheels went around

Wasn't it nice eating chocolate ice
As we strolled around the fun fair
Then we ate eels on the big ferris wheel
As we sailed above the ground but then
We had to be quick 'cause Elsie felt sick
And we had to find somewhere to take her
I said to her lad, what made her feel bad
Was the wheel going around

Can't you still hear the noise on the pier
As we took a breath of sea air
Having a go at every side show
We passed along the way, we had
Our fortunes told, when it turned a bit cold
And a go on the tombola
It was such a surprise 'cause I won a prize
When the wheel went around

Elsie and me, we finished our tea
And we said good bye to the seaside
Jumped on the bus, Flo said to us
Oh isn't it a shame to go
Wouldn't it be grand to have cash on demand
And to live like this for always
Oh it makes me feel ill when I think of the mill
And the wheels going around

I went to Rhyl once and Llandudno too. It was so long ago that Harry Secombe was playing at the theatre. My neice was there much more recently and reckons not much has changed so you should have a nice time.

Bangor is not so far up the line from Rhyl.
