Hi everyone
I have been a member since 2008 and although not been active for several years I have kept my subscription going. I'm now getting back into geneology and had a couple of questions:
1. The tree view still seems quite cubmersome to navigate. Example is that when someone shares their tree, if we have a match somewhere I want to know how the owner of the tree (usually the root) and I are related. Unless I am lucky enoughto stumble on a view of the tree which shows a commmon ancestor I am unaware how can I tell?

2. What are the most popular on-line communinites for family history now? Has Facebook or similar taken over?

Thanks for any input

Max

Welcome back Max.

Unless you are also listed in the other person's tree, you have to use a relationship calculator table to work out how you and they are related.

You can find out how they are related to the mutual ancestor by going to the full tree view and hovering your mouse over the ancestor. Make sure you've only clicked on the root person.

Once you've had a browse around the 'new' GR community boards, you'll notice that there are several new or renamed ones since your last visit. From the FH aspect

Genealogy Chat
Military Chat
Find Ancestors
Find Living Relatives.

Other boards for anything but FH are
General Chat (Rugby, OH is driving me up the wall, terrible weather etc etc)
Hobbies and Crafts
Quizzes and Games

If you'd like research help, then any query you wanted to post on the appropriate board would normally be answered quite quickly, so hang around to answer any follow up questions.

Most popular on-line communities? Difficult to say. Facebook has pages for GR, Findmypast and Ancestry which seem quite popular.
There is also Rootschat and Family Tree Forum.
