sorry, Ive wandered off topic again..........

using a modern day item as an example ...........IF you were able to go back in time, to the 50's,for instance, your mobile phone and sat nav wouldn't work.......because the technology hadn't yet been produced,,,,,,,,,,,

ang on a mo..........as a standalone device would it still function as say the camera/recording functions??

Hmmm.....interesting!!

therefore Gay meant happy.......

(no not one of the seven dwarfs either........)

yeah buttercup,

were are restricted on which term to use........as "GAY" wasn't in vogue then, although many more unsavoury terms were in use then........

Yes Cynthia,

Quentin was the subject of the film.......

Cynthia Report 3 Feb 2014 19:59

Quentin Crisp was the name of the character I think Bob.

John Hurt is a superb actor....and I think his father was a vicar who retired to Liverpool.

Yes, I do know John Hurt now. Never seen the late departed in anything, and glad I am not alone in that.

Had a good evening with Truman Capote in Paris. Small man, squeaky voice, gave him my autograph as we parted along the Champs Elysees. Had not realised he had played the part of John Hurt :-S

He was in 'Scent of a woman' with Al Pacino, it was rather along time ago and sadly I can't remember him.

I couldn't recall the name but knew the face. I have seen a few of the films he has been in and thought he was a fine actor. It is so sad to hear how he died.

John I think you were joking about not knowing John Hurt :-(

Is it really possible that people go through their lives and have no idea who Truman Capote was or seeing this movie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Talented_Mr._Ripley_%28film%29

I got drunk with the guy (Hoffman) once in New York. He was a perfectionist and thought that Hollywood was mainly populated with idiots. Myself I find a discreet charm in the antics of the media industry.

If you want a good read try this:
In Cold Blood (Truman Capote)
In Cold Blood is a book copyrighted and serialized in 1965 and published in book form in 1966 by American author Truman Capote; it details the brutal 1959 murders of Herbert Clutter, a successful farmer in the American wheat belt. Avail on Kindle etc.

John Hurt is a fine British actor .....too many films to mention John....just Google and I'm sure you will have seen him many, many times.

Mauatthecoast Report 3 Feb 2014 15:18

Must admit when I heard this sad news I couldn't place his name, but after looking at Wiki I recognised him as being in some very good films. Notably 'Talented Mr. Ripley' and 'Scent of a woman'.
So sad for his family.
