Dear All

Hello

Do you remember the half-penny?

Well, about 30 years ago it was withdrawn from use.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the time The Chancellor, Nigel Lawson said the Royal Mint would stop making the tiny coin at the end of the month, and it would cease to be legal tender in 1984.

Banks sent unused stocks back to the Royal Mint.

There were lots of arguments because many prices were rounded up to
the next figure, so the consumer paid the difference.

Some people dontated their half-pennys in large sweet jars to raise money
for charities.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since then, the £1 note has gone, the 20p was introduced and
various alterations to other coins and pound notes.

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth,
xx
