Sharron

Sharron Report 7 Feb 2014 20:41

Actually Uzzi, I could get some respite. In fact, the night Fred had to go into a home because of the power cut was charged to Social Services as respite for me.

Fred hated it and came home on the bus before we could order him a taxi.

I do get much more help than I ever expected, probably much more than I deserve.

Bodily functions are nothing to do with me, in fact I hardly ever touch Fred, for which he should be extremely grateful!

His saint of a mate does all the adventuring with him, for which I cannot express enough admiration and gratitude.

My role is administration really. I am the fat controller.

This is the problem with any type of respite. I have all the knowledge of how to go about and get things. (Anybody remember Bill Maynard in The Gaffer when the staff decided they could run the works better so he let them?)

I have come home from an afternoon out to find Fred's mate trying to work out who to call because of some crisis. It always leads to something worse for me to sort out if anybody else steps in.

I would be more stressed away from it for a night than I ever could be by listening all night and having a couple off hours when he is up.

Sadly Sharron you are "just" the carer and if you want respite then you have to pay. I think you are amazing. :-D :-D :-D :-D

I am glad Fred is back and the change of pills seem to be working.

Glad to read the ""man of the house"" :-D is coming along with change of pills,,,,,,that bus ride home from the hospital the other day must have taken more out of him than was realised.

A couple more dumplings Fred and you'll be jumping through hoops..

:-D

We had a nurse come out this morning to carry out observations on him because he had been sent home from hospital.

She said she didn't think there was any real reason for her to be there so she need not come back.

If I ever find out he was coming it yesterday he will have a genuine reason for being in hospital I can tell you!

You wouldn't think there had ever been anything wrong with the old bugger today!

Sharron you may not be the patient but you certainly have a lot of patience.

Sharron, I know that you are not the patient but I often wonder......"who cares for the Carer?"

It's not about me though is it?

I was never the patient.

Good that he's back and OK.....though I do think it would have been good for you to have him looked after for at least another couple of nights.

Sharron

Sharron Report 7 Feb 2014 09:45

He's up and rolling around downstairs, shouting up about some of the finer points of his medication ( actually the conversation did contain the words, poker, drains and biscuits but we got it sussed).

He is having a shave now and thee is washing for him at the bottom of the stairs.

What a difference a day makes eh?

I personally think that most hospitals are too quick to discharge patients with no thought at all for their situation at home and how weary the family (Sharron) is.
Ofcourse, it is good that Fred has bounced back bless him but a couple of days observations in hospital for a 94 year old gentleman plus the bonus of a couple of decent nights sleep and a wind down for the Carer would have been so much better
IMHO. Hope Fred is behaving himself now Sharron??!!

Sharron you do make me laugh. It´s good that Fred is back home and back to his old self. My heart stopped a beat on your opening post ....Shame they didn´t keep him in overnight but then you still wouldn´t have got a good nights sleep for worrying. Take care of yourself xx

Just seen this Sharron.
You didn't even have enough time to get a suitable stack of washing for him!!!

Glad they sorted his meds quickly, but I can imagine you'd have liked a good night's sleep :-|
Take care x

Sharron Report 6 Feb 2014 17:36

I don't sleep because I am listening.

Last good night's sleep I had was when he was in that rest home for the night and he was their responsibility.

As for the stew. He only wanted a small tea and put away a bowl of stew the same size a I ate, with a large dumpling!
