No didn't pay for it. I like it to clean up my pc but I haven't tried to download Avast.

IOBIT is one of the most useless bits of rubbish ware I have ever seen. One if its well known features is to stop safe programs from running! I hope you didn't pay for it! You did? Oh well. Yeah, I know it looks nice ...

Remove it and forget all about it.

In any case NEVER have more than one anti virus program running on the same machine.

Thanks Rollo, I hope you have dried out and warmed up now. I have passed the message on and he thinks it is sorted, he'll go back to it tomorrow when he feels better - suffering after a bad tooth extraction. He has a suspicion that the guilty party is not Firefox but IOBIT.

Avast is easily the best free AV and unlike AVG is not a memory hog.

In order to successfully remove it it must not be running.
While windows is starting press the F8 key.
This will bring up the startup menu.
Choose safe mode.
Windows will start but may look less than its usual beautiful self.
Remove Avast using the control panel | programs.
Restart

There is def. nothing in Avast which will screw up Firefox. OTOH yr Firefox may have malware in it which Avast is stopping from running and thus Firefox itself won't run. Before reinstalling Avast use the Firefox built in tool option and set it back to default no add ons etc .

Uninstall it from Control Panel or use the free version of Advanced SystemCare.

Avast is very good and far superior to AVG in many ways - it is probably the best free and user-friendly one out there at the moment

My OH has downloaded or tried to download Avast as suggested in a Webuser magazine instead of AVG. It seems to have corrupted firefox but I think he can sort that out. What he can't find how to do is to delete Avast. Any ideas. He is pretty PC literate but this has got him flummoxed.
