Not Guilty/Suspended Sentence

either way, there was insufficient evidence to prove him Guilty.

DazedConfused Report 6 Oct 2014 08:32

Again why not?

He did not touch children, he was not arrested under 'Yew Tree'

All he did was a quick grope. God, I do not think there are many women around who have not had this happen to them and they just either slap the guy or forget about it, but give the bloke a wide berth forever after.

He was found not guilty. Those 4 women who have complained and think he should have gone to prison, need to take a reality check, speak to women who have been sexually abused as children and adults. Then they might understand the law better.....

This whole trial smacked of 'jumping on the bandwagon' to me.

We had a bloke years ago in work, who would always manage to brush by in a corridor or reach across your desk and surreptitiously the back of his hand would brush your boobs. He only ever did it once to any woman in work, we all knew about him (warning new women about him) and even after it had happened to you, you were still unsure that it had really happened it was so very subtle.

I personally have now have no sympathy for these women who complain about this in this way. A quick slap round the face in public or a loud comment on what has just been done is all this needs.

I apologise now if any of my comments offend, but I am calling it like I see it and from experience. <3

Why not? criminals from all walks of life, make money by writing books about their exploits

Dermot Report 5 Oct 2014 16:48

'DLT allegedly offered loads of money to appear in the next CBB' - so said a report today.

They can not be serious!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Feb 2014 12:49

As has been said a two edged sword. I am all for genuine victims of abuse coming forward and being believed and the person prosecuted. However, these celebrity accusations do seem like people jumping on the band wagon hoping for a pay out. I hope that the fact that so far there have been aquittals doesn't mean that those who are actually guilty get away with it because future juries think every case is going to be the same.

On the other hand it must be such a difficult job weeding out truth from imagination and what has been said in the media for jurors now.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 25 Feb 2014 10:44

what people have to understand though is that very often victims don't report at the time for many reasons - will they be believed, was it their fault, they were too young, they were embarrassed

what the Jimmy Saville inquiry did was empower victims to come forward - this takes enormous courage and a great deal of support and understanding from the family of the person and the various organisations who deal with it

I can remember donkey's year ago going on holiday with a friend and her parents, and her father (an eye surgeon!!) made me feel very uncomfortable, sort of hovering over me if you know what I mean and, swimming near me in the sea, and just generally making me feel uneasy. Later on in a world of work, particular blokes made stupid comments, sidled up to you in the filing room, brushed against you, and were often a d#### nuisance. We girls just laughed at them behind their backs and told them to p## off to their faces, or if necessary gave them the stiletto heel treatment! I would never, all these years later dream of dragging that up whoever it was and wrecking someone's life to the extent of financially ruining them, sending them to prison and reducing them to despair - It would be an awful thing to do.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Feb 2014 22:38

that's awful Ann
there are some sad sick people on this earth :-( :-(

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Feb 2014 22:08

to be honest
I am beginning to think I may have been the only person not not be abused

or that's how it feels thank god

but i do feel bad for those that where :-( :-(

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 24 Feb 2014 21:52

problem is that it makes a mockery of those who really were assaulted - never mind how long ago it was

the Jimmy Saville debacle was in a way a two edged sword - it brought forward victims who really were assaulted, but also brought out of the woodwork, people whose only goal was to get money

I firmly believe that if someone has made a false accusation they should be named and prosecuted

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Feb 2014 21:35

everybody deserves justice
no matter if its DLT or the victims

the truth will out in the end I hope :-( :-(

I dread to think what my late husband who was a police officer in the met 1960s-late 80s would make of all this
He had no time for CPS......had a lot of instances of wasting time and money
Why drag all this up now when it is all mostly circumstantial...
Sells newspapers and makes lawyers richer......never mind those who get hurt during the process.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 24 Feb 2014 20:41

Persecution comes to mind.............

Joy

Joy Report 24 Feb 2014 14:49

This is absolutely appalling, and I really hope that some new evidence comes to light just as before with the amateur video filmed at the opening of a hospital radio station.
Halfway through the trial, a member of the public contacted the DJ's legal team after reading about the claims in the Sun.

He told them he had an amateur video, filmed at the opening of a hospital radio station where Travis was alleged to have sexually assaulted a carnival princess while they were alone, touring the wards.

The video was crucial, Travis's barrister Stephen Vullo said, because it suggested that at no time was Travis away from his wife, Marianne, and therefore he could not possibly have molested the girl. )

OneFootInTheGrave Report 24 Feb 2014 12:20

Cannot help feeling that this is nothing more than an attempt by the CPS to get their pound of flesh because they were publicly humiliated when they failed to get a conviction in the original trial.

This re-trial makes a mockery of the whole justice system, and after all the publicity and media frenzy surrounding the original trial - there is no way that it can ever be a fair trial.

Magpie

Magpie Report 24 Feb 2014 11:51

OFGS these two people have been to hell and back, and look like they will be going again - As you say AnninGlos, how can a new trial be unbiased after all the media attention. DLT has lost his home, reputation and has been reduced to criminal status if the CPS have their way - I would have thought that both he and his wife have suffered enough, and whoever he has allegedly offended had their pound of flesh - or is this a financial exercise or the CPS saving face?!!! on both fronts I hope they come well and truly unstuck!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Feb 2014 11:38

I do wonder how it can be an unbiased trial now with so much having been in the media.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 24 Feb 2014 10:13

It is being reported on BBC News that Dave Lee Travis is to face a re-trial on two charges - one of indecent assault & one of sexual assault.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 14 Feb 2014 08:38

this kind of result doesn't help women who have REALLY been abused...........

it only heightens the "cry wolf" attitude to these kind of accusations......

I think the CPS should pay his costs. He's had to sell his house to pay for his defence.
