That man's obituary said he was "an exceptional man"

Two of his wives were sisters...... that would make the children half siblings and 1st cousins........... :-S :-S :-S

it still goes on!

The Fundamentalist group believes in polygamy ........ there are several groups of them in Utah, Florida, I think Idaho, and even one in British Columbia, in Canada

There's even one of those reality shows on TV that's about a polygamous marriage

LadyScozz Report 21 Feb 2014 01:06

I think I'm related to half of Utah & Idaho!

I'm a bit foggy this morning......... silly me stayed up until almost 3am..... :-(

I'm trying to get my head around all those women thinking it was "normal" for a man to have so many wives! At least one man on my tree had six wives....... Monday-Saturday, and Sunday off??

Scozz

I had a few who apparently went to Utah ................... and I've got a few who have been added after death (by someone in OZ :-) )

I've got a family who emigrated to OZ from England, then sailed on a Mormon ship from Adelaide to California during the Gold Rush Days .............. seemingly on the understanding they would proselytize on the California gold fields.

They didn't :-)

Instead, they became pioneer farmers in the San Bernardino Valley ;-)

so ...................... so far, I haven't found multiple wives!

We actually went to Salt Lake City back in the late 1980s, and had a browse in the indexes that were available.

We couldn't find any names form either my family or OH's

It's a fascinating place!

Thanks Margee :-D

I've found some really awful transcriptions on the familysearch site, it will be great to see documents.

Have you seen this site? It has Utah death certificates 1904-1968.

LadyScozz been there done that, as I also have several distant relatives that went to Utah and joined the Church of the Latter Day Saints, quite a few had more than one wife at the same time, one married two sisters, judging by the number of children some of them had - one can only guess what they got up to in their spare time :-D

Next time I get a couple of "doorknockers"............ I'll invite them in. :-D

We might be cousins :-0

What a shame we can't sit down and have a cuppa........... or a beer ;-)

I have several relatives who went to Utah way back when.....

Most of the men had several wives and LOADS of children.

I've spent about an hour adding names to my tree (not the GR one), and going slightly bonkers.

I started with one of my gg?? uncles who married the daughter of a man who had three wives, and a total of 27 children. I had a look at all the children, and who they married......... and most of them married relatives of mine! Then their descendants a few generations down married......... ??cousins??......

What a tangled jungle I've just added!

I have other families, the men had six wives! The mind boggles wondering how they all lived .... together?

No wonder I have a headache :-0 :-S
