You only hear about the players salaries bacause they are the ones in front of the media cameras all the time. If the likes of Wayne Rooney didn't get their hands on it, that money would go to somebody you've never heard of and nobody would be any the wiser for it. Manchester United is not just a football club, it's a multi-million pound business. Behind the cameras are a load of faceless shareholders who want to protect their investment. Wayne Rooney is one of the companies assets. They're trying to protect their assets in order to protect their own earnings (however much that might be). |

He only earns that money because fans and football management want him to be paid that amount. He could presumably earn fabulous wages in many countries. |

It would be interesting to know exactly how much tax he is actually paying to the exchequer. The likelihood is that much is paid in such a way that he incurs very little income tax. |

So agree with all your comments especially yours Magpie. As some of you have also said it wouldn't hurt some of the 'celebrities' to help out the flood victims but don't suppose they will. As someone once said to me 'there are those that have it all and keep it all to themselves and those that have next to nothing and share with all'. oh well that's life I suppose but still makes me angry. |

Wayne is paying £8m a year tax - which is more than I earn gross (before tax). |

I just can't believe that ANYONE is worth that sort of money, let alone getting it for kicking a football!! Perhaps, as already said, some of these over paid prima donna's could donate a fraction of their salaries to helping others less fortunate than themselves in whatever capacity. (With regard to the floods we haven't exactly seen ANY celebrity interest, and clearly won't!) When you think of the years of training, long hours and dedication of so many people in vital/worthwhile services/careers not even earning a small fraction of this 'money', it just makes me want to puke!! |

Alas professional football is not a sport, it is a financial market that buys & sells commodities - the commodity is players :-( |

It's disgraceful. It wouldn't hurt him to offer some of his cash to those people who lost everything in the floods, same as it wouldn't hurt lots more of those overpaid footballers and such. |
