Thought I would update you on Fred's progress.

He had very low levels of sodium and this is what made him lose the plot. They did whatever they do about that in the hospital and took him off one of the pills he has been taking since his stroke seven years ago. They would have been one of the causes.

He is not quite properly here all the time and is getting tired. Didn't have his shower this morning and, because he was tired, he went back to bed.

This meant I didn't get the bit of kip I usually have once I know he is up. I was still listening out.

Having come home on Friday night, he stayed in bed on Saturday until he heard the call of out there. His mate had to push him up the road.

He did want to get up and go to work on Saturday night and he sometimes doesn't know where he is still but it is getting better.

Today he went to the cafe for his dinner, where they made a fuss of him, as did the lady driving the bus.

He is becoming more coherent daily. I have to remember that he was in hospital for a week. It would take anybody time to get over that and he is ninety-four.

It doesn't stop me listening out all night though!

We all know what tomorrow is. Thursday is café day again, if he so chooses and then we have the carer's lunch on Friday. Lucky his appetite has not been affected!

Hi Sharron, it must get harder and harder for Fred's body to adjust to changes in medication and routine, but hope he will soon be back to his old self only without the sodium level probs etc.

I can understand you being on guard as you sleep but hope you manage to catch up with some rest now and then. Can't have you going under, can we? We would be lost without your stories of Fred and he would be in big trouble without you to guide him.

Nice to hear Fred is on the mend . At his age his body will take time to bounce back but he is truly a fighter .

You take care of yourself too ;-)

Two loads of washing have been done this morning, I can hear him doing something downstairs now.

I got up for a tiddle about half an hour before the carers came this morning and he was bellowing upstairs because he wanted to get up.

Isn't sodium wonderful?
