The UK is a nation that relies heavily on tourism & a huge important part of that is our public toilets & seaside resorts. We need to act as a nation & safeguard both of these facilities for years to come.

Hard work is rarely easy.

Now there are more of them: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2572752/Stop-standing-toilet-Now-Lloyds-Bank-issues-instructions-use-British-loos-foreign-staff.html#comments

There was me trying to work out how I would use my shewee and cope with bags of shopping - now I've got to work out they flushed the toilet with their feet..............

I'm glad you agree!

My first experience was as a child in 50's France - let's just say someone before me didn't get it right......... Juk! :-P

We lived & worked in eastern Europe for about three years, we saw some disgusting sights!

Had to use one in the countryside....... basically a shed, a hole dug in the ground, with a foot size piece of concrete either side. Thousands of flies.

We learned very quickly to carry lots of tissues!

A few foreigners worked there, some of them refused to use the "facilities" and drove home during the day to use their own.

We had a normal loo in our apartment.... and had a list of which restaurants & bars had decent loos.

Yup! Although the town of Esperance itself, at the moment, has nothing to recommend it. It seems that the whole town is being redeveloped in one hit. The foreshore is supposed to be completed in Autumn, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Incidentally, a surfeit of public toilets here :-D

I must admit that until I read this thread, I thought a squat was the illegal occupation of a property :-D

Had to use these in France...but the worst ones Ive ever come across have been in Morocco....filthy...and charged 2 euros for the privilege.
Their hotels have excellent facilities, but caught short on a tour is a bad experience,

The company i worked for when the mass influx of migrant labour arrived decided it a good idea to get rid of local employees in favour of the new cheap labour, Before they arrived the works tiolets where spotless 24/7

overnight all the toilet seats were broken the place stunk there was excrement wiped on walls and doors, The tiolets were also blocked more often than not because they used to take the cups from the vending machine and put water in the cup to wash their backsides after deficating and then try to flush the cups down the toilet, The company had to employ a full time tiolet attendant just to keep it clean and ended up having it re built with stainless steel toilets (no seats) stainless wash basins and the attendant had to have a high presure jet wash system installed to help keep it clean.

That was a company that supplies food products to all the major supermarkets

At last a really important thread. One of our most basic needs. And if we get more integrated with Merkelland, will we have these squatty things at side of our roads. My poor daughter in Normandy some years ago when she was 10 - she was desperate. But - constipation in continent :-( :-( :-( Will it spread to UK?

GinN Report 1 Mar 2014 17:53

Some of those squatting ones in France are absolutely revolting! I would rather wet my pants! And how are you supposed to manage when wearing trousers? Nowhere to put them in the unclean French ones!
