MY FIRST DATE WITH MY HUSBAND!

He took me (unsuspectingly) to the lounge of his club. There, he introduced me to his parents, his sisters, their husbands, his aunt and uncle, his cousins and their spouses, his nieces and nephews etc!

He sat me down in the midst of them...... and then went in the bar to play pool with his brother-in-laws for the rest of the night! :-0 :-0 :-D :-D

I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN- SHOULDN'T I?!!! :-0 :-| :-S :-S :-D :-D :-D

I was 15 he had a very impressive double barrelled surname, can't remember his first name. He was a least a foot shorter than me, 1'm 5'10", but a week or so before he had sent me a Valentines day card that he had signed! My mum thought he was a good catch and from a good back ground. We went to the cinema, he arrived with a box of chocolates. I wore my elder sisters dress that was too old looking for me. He was so perfectly behaved. He did ask me out again but even with my mum trying to convince me this was my way forward I never went out with him again. I was looking for a bit more excitement in my life.

I was 15, there was a school dance, and one of the prefects asked me to go with him........... an older man!

I was so excited! Mum took me shopping to get a new blouse........

And the rotten so-n-so never turned up.

The deed is not forgotten, but I can't remember his name....... not worth it.

Cue for an anniversary thread tomorrow, Jean :-D :-D Expect somebody has had that sorted for some weeks. Lovely story, have a very happy day :-D

And you missed me, Joan. I didn't have my first date till about 3 months after you fell hook, line and sinker. I expect you would have waited if you knew I was still available :-D :-D Another lovely story - and I find it very hard to believe that a 1967 marriage means that you are coming up for your Golden :-0 :-0

Paula. It was Pawsons, the shop. I was thinking of that huge building in front of it. May have been Bingo Hall in 63. :-) Picture house we went to was down by Bridge, I think. Near Sister Dora.

We went to Bognor. It must have been to the cinema, I can't remember that bit.

What I do remember is him taking me into an Indian restaurant, ordering egg and chips twice and eating it off his knife.

We were both aged 9. I'd not long moved to Devon, he was called Steven, and lived between villages. He came to the same school as me. I think he was impressed when I defended an even 'newer' pupil than me from bullies.
He came over to praise me, and after that we spent lunchtimes and playtimes walking around together, or joining in games with the others - together. We were both very slim, he had pale skin and white-blond hair. I was olive skinned with jet black hair. Life was sweet. It was his 10th birthday later in the month, and he invited me to it.
I was very excited - he said we'd play 'postman's knock'.

At his party, I met his parents and their very excitable jack Russell. About 10 of us sat around eating the birthday tea.
All went well until a horrendous smell came from under my chair - where the dog was sitting. For a small dog, he could produce the most horrendous wind.
Steven (probably jokingly) accused me........
I was so embarrassed, I burst out crying.
I decided he was a shallow idiot.

Fortunately he moved not soon after - his dad was a policeman and had been re-located. I still find it funny that, at the time, his dad was PC Crook. :-D

He was the Doctors son a Grammar school boy, and drop dead gorgeous. He walked past my school and asked me if I would like to go to the Milk Bar in town, and then we held hands as he walked me home. I saw him the next day walking my friend home, and then later walking with another girl. He asked me if I wanted to go to the cinema and I said no thank you, he looked so shocked. We were about thirteen at the time. Years later we met up with him and his Dad, and he told my friend I had ditched him, his Dad said serves him right.

@ John his Majesty's closed in 1939. :-S

Apologies if you recognise yourself!

I had a penpal from North of the Border, and the letters were coming faster and bit more intense. He was coming to London for the weekend with his friend, so I said I would meet him.

After warnings from my Dad, I agreed to meet in Trafalgar Square, where it would be 'safe'.

I told him on the phone what I would be wearing so he could look out for me, although we had exchanged photos......................

So after getting dolled up to the nines, I wandered into the Square.............and a young man came up to me. NOTHING like his photo at all, and unfortunately the poor lad had very bad skin. I spent the next couple of hours walking in all the back streets so that no-one would see me with him.

Callous? Cruel? Young? I favour the last.

:-(

A Barn full of bales of hay was involved.

Having had 'The Lecture' from Mum before meeting him, nothing much happened. ;-)
He was a boarding school lad, only home during the holidays. We did go up to London on the train to visit various art galleries on Bond Street, but nothing ever came of it. Wonder what happened to him?

Naaahhh. That was a bit of Mills & Boon :-( :-(

It was winter of 63. And it was romantic Walsall and freezing. I must have been the shyest and gingeriest and immature (not like I am now) 17 year old. And Pauline was same age, but so much wiser and really lovely. And she worked in the pawnbrokers round back of His Majesty's Cinema.

Our date was Imperial Cinema and we met there. She was definitely going to be my wife - she was beautiful and I was head over heels in love. I bought a packet of 20 Peter Stuyvesant and a box of matches and offered her one nonchalantly (like the ads) as we climbed the steps to best seats in circle.

I opened matchbox wrong way and all matches cascaded down about 20 steps. And later I got pins and needles trying to get my arm round her shoulders. Arm went completely numb and I was never going to tell Pauline. So right arm drooped lifelessly over her right shoulder for what seemed hours.

We never dated again :-( :-( :-(

I remember mine so sweet, so innocent, so young. He asked to walk me home after a party at his. He held my hand and walked me 8 doors up (watched by parents.) gave me a kiss (on the cheek) thanked me for coming to his birthday party and assured me he would be at mine the following week. We were 5 or 6 at the time 5 days apart in age and his Mum was my Aunts sis in law (or some strange connection) Me and S stayed friends until I left Sheffield.

"She arrived at 8:46. In most areas of her life she ran habitually
five minutes late. But she’d learned the hard way never to keep me
waiting.
I had my own room at the club, only one of seven people who
did. And she had a key to my room, only one of two people who did.
My room was spare and strangely elegant considering its only
purpose. Apart from three floor-standing candlesticks, my room was
simply adorned. Rich white and black linens covered the bed. White
sheets nestled below - waiting."

Continued in a few minutes - memories are flooding back now.

It was with a boy from youth club and we went to Southampton on the train to watch them play Chelsea.

I had no idea about football.

We went for a meal after in a cafe and we had pork chops and potato croquettes, I was eating some chewing gum and didn't like to spit it out so I ate it with my dinner.

He was very sweet but a bit intense and I fancied his best friend more so I dumped

him for the friend, who then dumped me after a few months.

Two days later I met my husband, who was at school with them both.

I was fourteen.

It was with the boy who delivered our milk, when I was 14!
He asked to walk me home from the coffee bar, where my friends and I used to meet. I had fancied him for ages, so I was really pleased. We talked about all sorts on the way home, and I really liked him. He gave me an apple, which we shared. As we got to my gate, he reached in for a kiss ........and I burped! Oh well, he said, that's what apples do for you!
That was our last date, I wonder why!
