Dermot - what do you think Rob Titchener is up to?
True love or evil scoundrel?

Farage reminds me a bit of a stand-up comedian who asks the audience to throw things at him and then responds in a way that will win their applause and laughter (or vote). He plays to the gallery in Small Heath and Knowle, in Chelsea and Catford, in Grangetown and Whitchurch. Varying his message (and UKIP policy) to suit each area.

Not a serious politician like Boris Johnson or Ed Balls, is he?

BBC R4 is tops for me & generally a Nigel Farage free zone.

Not a good idea to disturb me while I'm listening to The Archers.

I do get a bit annoyed, OFITG, when I switch the news on at 6am and it is all stuff I have very little interest in. Any Oscars (Pist - or - US) leave me cold. I do like local news at 6.25 and particularly like the review of the papers including the business news with that lovely Geordie girl.

I am happy paying what I pay for a BBC TV license - and a fiver a week does not seem too exorbitant (is it £3 a week now?). As long as they don't waste it on salaries over £300,000 pa (cos I don't wnat to see loads of stars and expensive managers in a public service).

And I enjoy watching other news channels if something really important breaks. But every time I switch them on I seem to be hearing from their sponsors :-( :-(

By the way, I think Ukraine is a very domestic issue. Just like Northern Ireland is a UK problem to solve, Ukraine is best solved by Russia. There will be big tears if lovers USA and UK start manoevring in that part of world.

I actually quite like a lot of BBC programmes so it is not intended to be an anti BBC thread.

I suppose it relates to all the main news broadcasters in the UK, as I am fed up turning on my TV and being deluged with hours and hours of news about things that really have no relevance to events in the world today, events that could affect people's lives.

Lets face it, in this country there are reports every week of someone killing their wife or fiancee, and all these reports get, is a mention in the news, whereas Oscar Pistorius gets wall to wall coverage because he won medals in the Olympics & Paralympics, as much as I admire his sporting achievements - the news coverage of his trial has gone over the top :-(

surely not enough to have this wall to wall coverage

Kay????

Kay???? Report 3 Mar 2014 13:25

There are many SA TV licence paying people living in the UK who will have a great interest in the procedings as it happens.

Sorry, have missed point yet again.

I think this is an anti-BBC thread. Or is it a thread to voice worry over what is happening in Yalta?

Think Oscar ceremony may have been a red herring to lure us into a grumpy debate. :-S

What a waste of time.

Has the BBC News Channel got it wrong again, wall to wall coverage all morning about the trial of South African athlete Oscar Pistorius.

You could be excused for thinking there is nothing else going on in the world, not least that Europe and the West are facing the biggest crisis since the second world war with what is happening in Ukraine.

Is it any wonder there are calls for the licence fee to be abolished.
