Harry, either to sell the "newspaper" or the person who reported it gets some media attention, but I also think the media hyp it up and should not unless the one on trial is a danger to the public.

Down to the media, or perhaps the police, in my opinion. Why on earth should anyone broadcast bad news about one of their 'family'.

Happy days

I agree with Kitty. I do not read newspapers either and try to avoid similar things on the news on t.v.

As a member of the public I would rather hear nothing about any offences unless a guilty plea is entered or, in the case of a plea of not guilty, until they are proven in court..............speculation is non-news to me.

it is harmful to too many people to "report" rumour, gossip and speculation

Which is why I don't read newspapers very often :-)

I think this has more to do with the way that the media report things than a government cover-up. A scandal relating to well known and popular celebrities is going to be more appealing to the general public than a government advisor that nobody has previously heard of. It's all about selling newspapers.

So it seems they can cover up what they want as I dont remember seeing either of these cases on the news!!!

Rolf Harris; Michael Le Vell; Dave Lee Travis; Bill Roach, to name but a few, had there names and alleged offences splashed across the newspapers and television screens the moment they were arrested and before they were even charged.

So why is it that it took nearly three weeks after a senior government advisor was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, and only after questions were asked by the media, that we are only being told now, about the Deputy Head of the Policy Unit in Downing Street who is also said to be a close friend of the Prime Minister David Cameron, being arrested on 13 February 2014?
