Gladys ............

you will often find marriage certificates where the bride and groom give the same address.

This does not mean that they actually lived there together ................... but they were saving money!

The Banns had to be called in both the Parish of the bride and that of the groom

The vicar of each parish had to be paid.

So many people who actually lived in different parishes gave the same address so that it appeared that they came from the same parish.

Thus they only had to pay for one set of Banns.

there was also an understanding that an appearance would be made at the Church were the Banns were being called ............... and this could be very difficult if one had to travel back for 3 Sundays.

How do you know they stayed at an address without parents consent?

If it an address they gave when they married, it could of been so they could marry in that parish and didn't actually live there at all.....I know my husband and myself gave different address's to where we actually lived just so we could marry in a particular registry office

KLThank you everyone!!!We do know 1902 names and addresses, but the couple we are looking for seem to have stayed there before they married without parents consent!!! We know when they moved from the area, but not where they stayed after the wedding. Many thanks for all the info. Gladys :-)

The ones for Merthyr Tydfil are in the archive section of the local library. I'm not sure how far they cover, geographically, but the ones I wanted were searchable by name or address.

They also held a lot of street directories, but as DetEcTive says, only the head of the household is listed.

Have you looked for relatives on the 1901 and 1911 census's?

You'd need to find where the nearest archive is, or a main library which has a local studies section. Being unfamiliar with the Welsh system you may find that they are now held at the National Archive of Wales.

Electoral Rolls can only be searched by address with only the qualifying male name - female names only if they owned a property in their own right - being listed. You might be lucky and find that there is a street directory with listings by surname, but again, only the head of the household.

If an 'event' occurred (BMD) then the certificate would normally give the usual address
