When I Moved into my bungalow ten years there was a meter already installed, I Ilive on my own so the monthly bill was low a few years ago it shot up to £67 a month, now I'm away a lot I have to go down to my mums every two weeks for the weekend sometimes more if I'm needed. I don't have a bath I shower I use dishwasher twice a week same with washing. Water board came out to check I had no leaks, but when I had my statement in they owed me £500 pounds. UNBIEVEBLE.

Is the rateable value based on the house/suburb where we live?

That would explain why it's so high

If you are not on a meter then it is based on rateable value plus fixed charges.

Depends upon whether you are on a meter or not, how many are living in the property, rateable value if not on a meter etc etc. It does sound a bit high but difficult to answer without knowing specific details of course. My understanding was that you were not in a particularly big property so I would get it checked out.

Well we had the water meter installed last July .compulsory ! They didnt switch it over for 3 months

Had a letter about 3 weeks ago saying that each person in a household usually used 150 litres per day . so for our two person house that would be 300. We are using 216 litres. Based on the consumption being about the same our 6 month bill will be saving us £140plus on the charge they used to make using ratable value

Must say being on a meter does make you think about letting taps run etc as all the water going down the drain you are paying for
