In some ways I do not have an awful lot of sympathy but it does have to be said that the church has more money/resources than it knows what to do with.

I'll cut back on the weekly plate donation. That should put a dent on the balance & a quiver in the priest's/vicar's hip-pocket..

I only give them a plate every five weeks or so!

Hence the expression when invited to a picnic at the presbytery - "Bring your own plate".

I always took them to mean bring your own dentures because the meat was tough.

Meat? Not on Fridays during Lent. A biscuit or two to dunk in the coffee, if you are lucky! Dentures are frequently shared.

Getting older need not be a frightening experience. Now you have the experience of making mistakes, learning from them, and moving on.
