I'm just the same Scozz. There are so many of us touching everything these days. I use the trolleys without seats too. Little feet tread in all sorts, not always visible. Even spit on shoe bottoms can carry TB which is becoming more widespread and resistant. Little children pick up tummy bugs etc to transfer on little inquisitive fingers. No thanks! I head for the gel at the docs after I've used the touchscreen to book in, most people don't though. I use my sleeves pulled over hands on door handles and my pinkie on lift buttons.

One of the worst things I saw was a dad waiting at a supermarket cafe entrance with a small child that was sitting on the pile of trays that people take to put their food on! Why do mothers allow children with unwashed hands to rifle though cutlery at supermarket cafes as well? I hate it when people sit their babies/toddlers on restaurant tables.

It's shocking the number of people that don't wash their hands after going to the toilet. I hang my bag round my neck rather than put it on the floor in public toilets. Then there's the people who cough all over food in those open refrigerated displays......fancy a desert anyone?

When I was a child, twice a year Mum would take me into Glasgow... shopping for a winter coat & a party frock (frocks were for parties, dresses were for everyday lol).

I can't remember the name of the shop... a big store, there was a restaurant on the top floor (Mum would NOT go into a cafe)....... it was a treat to be taken there for lunch.

Anyway......... Mum stopped going there...............because one day when Mum was having lunch she saw a waitress cleaning her fingernails....... with a fork!!!!!!!!

don't your shopping trolleys have seats for children with holes where they put their feet so they stick OUTSIDE the trolley? The children face the person pushing the trolley. Their feet don't touch anything in the trolley.


I also think people are taking things too far.

Those antibiotic / antiseptic wipe downs of kitchen counters do very little to kill "bugs" ............. they just make people feel more comfortable.

Why don't they do anything??

Because the antibiotic / antiseptic is not in contact with any bugs for long enough to kill anything, or to do anything other than spread the "bugs" around the counter surface.

The same thing really goes for using such solutions to wash or wipe your hands.

All you are really doing is putting antibiotics and antiseptics into the water, and helping the development of resistant "bugs".


Soap and water are better by far for any of this kind of cleaning. The water doesn't even have to be hot ............ research has shown that cold water and soap is very effective.

Sylvia ~ shopping trolleys in Oz are like that (child facing the person pushing the trolley).

I've often seen children sitting in trolleys with leaky pants.... so I NEVER put food in that area.

When my niece was small, sil had her sitting in the trolley while she unpacked the groceries into the car....... and the trolley tipped over! Screaming child, groceries going in every direction, and not one person stopped to help. After that, sil unpacked the child first, into the car seat, then got the groceries.

I've read some articles about the "anti-bacterial" soap..... didn't like the sound of it, but now I cannot find ANY liquid soap that isn't anti-bacterial.

I am the person who goes on about children sitting in the main part of shopping trollies with their shoes on the base of it. Premts even plonk them in the smaller shallower trollies. I have seen children clamber in on their own, and the parent says nothing. Who knows where the child has walked? Even with trollies with child seats incorporated there are people who don't use that part and let the child sit in the trolley among the groceries. The thing that makes me mad is that the supermarkets rarely speak to the person in case they upset them. Only once have I complained and seen a manager go to speak to the woman, and then take the trolley away for cleaning. Most of the trollies are outside for ages with bird droppings maybe hitting them, or all sorts of dust and grime settling on them.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that food is prepacked. You buy a pack of ham, take it home, put it in the fridge and then later take it out to make a sandwich using the bread you bought at the same time, both items could have germs on from that previous child's feet being in the trolley you used. You touch the packets to open them and then make the sandwich.... need I say more?

When I was young I developed a rash on my hands and feet. The first thing our GP (an ex Army doctor) said to Mum was What dirt has she been playing in? Mum was horrified, her little girl didn't play in dirt (little did she know) That was in the late 19950s.

i wasn't given antibiotics but suffered that rash on and off for years, never did find out whether it was an allergy or what caused it but it was very painful, unsightly and inconvenient.

the street is absolutely gorgeous for about 4 weeks of the year.

The block north of us has a different variety of cherry tree, a paler pink and it flowers about 2 weeks before the ones by our house.

Each of the varieties is in flower and usually good shape for 2-2½ weeks, so we get a total of 4-5 weeks of glory!

We have people stopping their cars and taking photos up the street and down the street for those 4 weeks.

Thew trees are even pretty when not in flower.

Then we have the other side of life as experienced by the British public on a day-to-day basis: the shootings, stabbings, muggings, suicides, poverty, depression, robberies, fear, repossessions, bankruptcies, homelessness and bullying.

Yet, I sometimes wonder why do some have a tendency to behave badly in Supermarkets when they think no one is looking - ignoring the CCTV.

CCTV is a way of life now isn't it?
there are so many cameras you tend to notice where there isn't one,

and unless someone complains,(or actually steals summat, ) no one bovvers, I think

ANPR is the way to go, now they are everywhere, getting ready for the discontinuation of having to display a road Tax disk

supermarket carparks have got on the bandwagon as well, around here its a 3 hour limit
anpr in, anpr out over 3 hours you get a parking ticket/penalty..
whether you bought anything, or not!!
