......rum in coffee for a cough, and whisky in coffee for a cold.

May not work, but, by then, I don't care :-D

Check labels on cough & cold medications for ephedrine or pseudo-ephedrine. Not good for anyone with heart/blood pressure problems.

I'm very careful with any medications.........the naturopath knows what pharmacy medications I'm taking, and the GP knows which herbal ones I take.

Another acupuncture & cupping session on Tuesday....... it's working!

It's true what Dizzy says ................. you do have to be careful.

I have high blood pressure.

Years ago, before I was diagnosed with the bp, I found a Chinese Herbal cough medicine, called Nin Jiom. It was great, worked well and tasted good.

I continued taking it after the diagnosis ................. herbal couldn't be bad for me, and so many cough medicines were no-nos for people with high bp.

I even passed ti by my GP, and he said it seemed OK.

Googling the name seemed to produce no contra-indications

Then something made me Google the individual ingredients.

Guess what??

One of the plants used causes increased blood pressure!

so it is back to the one and only cough medicine I can take ....................

a Canadian one called Buckley's Original ................ which contains ammonium carbonate, potassium bicarbonate, camphor, menthol, Canada balsam (Abies balsamea), pine needle oil, and a tincture of capsicum.

It tastes vile, hence the advertising slogan of "It Tastes Awful. And It Works." :-)

Unfortunately, Novartis (a Swiss company) bought the name about 2002, and "factory problems" mean that this Original formula has not been available for the last year due to "factory issues".

It is apparently selling on EBay for "huge" amounts. :-D

Other formulations of Buckleys are still available, but they all contain dextromethorphan, which is a no-no for people with high bp.

They sound good, Scozz :-D
I have a friend who started getting arthritis in his hands in his 30's. After 20 year of various (quite debilitating at times) drugs, he went to an acupuncturist.
For the past 10 years, he's been seeing the acupuncturist and drinking a particular Chinese tea. His arthritis got no worse, he is pain free and, though his hands still look arthritic around the joints, he has full use of them - something he didn't have before :-D

Dizzi ~ the naturopath I go to is very good. He suggested I talk things over with my GP about the herbal medication & pharmacy medication.

I was astonished at the good reaction from the GP... he keeps a list of medications he prescribes, and removed some of them from the list!

We went out tonight......... and I lost more in pee than I drank! :-D It's not normal for me to to weeee four times in an evening lol

WITH ALL MY OTHER PILLS I CANT TAKE HERBAL MEDICINE
BE CAREFUL IF YOUR ON PRESCRIBED DRUGS A LOT ARE
INCOMPATIBLE AND DANGEROUS AND HAVE BAD REACTION
MYSELF I CANT TALE ANYTHING WITH IRON IN,
BUT I WILL LOOK INTO YOURS I HAVE BEEN IN HOSPITAL THREE
TIMES WITH SEVERE FLUID RETENTION ON INTRAVENOUS DRIP
WATCH OUT FOR YOU LEGS LEAKING OR WATER BLISTERS,WHEN
THEY APPEAR IT'S HARD TO GET RID OF THEM.

The naturopath has helped me more in the last 6 weeks than the doctors have done for the last 12 years!

I wonder when I'll start rattling.

:-)

The fluid thingies are "Black Pearl"... don't ask me to say the Chinese name of the pills.... but they DO look like black pearls.

My daughter goes to a naturopath, as well as to a regular doctor, and swears by him.

I'm not so sure, at times!

lol Sylvia

I've been spending a bit of time in the little room, but it's not as bad as the pharmacy medication result....... with the herbal medication I get more than three seconds warning!

I've got quite a cocktail of the herbal medicines...... Himself is horrified that I take over 40 of them every day. I've also got a herbal anti-inflammatory, and it doesn't upset my stomach.

:-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 May 2014 04:03

........ and how many times a day do you go running to the "little room"? :-)

seriously, that sounds good!

I've had this problem for years :-(

GP has tried various medication, none of them worked well.

I've recently been seeing a naturopath, who has helped enormously with other problems, and he suggested some herbal medicines to help with them, and the fluid problem.

I've been taking the fluid medication for three days. I can now take off my wedding ring! It's been stuck on my finger for at least five years.

And......... I have ankles :-D :-D

btw ~ I'm keeping up my fluid intake
