Ok peeps the other site is called
http://www.Flightradar24.com

When the page comes up, on the right a box says jump to area. scroll to europe. You will then see hundreds of planes all over. If you want uk only then hover over uk and you will see around london and glasgow is the busiest even at this time of night. i find though it's a little slow so have patience.

Hi everyone, so glad you found it interesting. Im hooked now and look at it several times a day.
When a cruise ship is heading up to us, my hubby disappears with his camera to the tip of our island and then waits to catch a photo. He does this when its really rough to get some fantastic pictures of fishing boats.

yes the channel and solent are so busy its truly amazing how they all manage to travel at all!

there is another site my OH found that shows all the planes flying over the uk and where they are going to and from. I cant remember the name of hand but will look it up and post it here.

Thanks for your comments, back in a while.

That's really interesting Florence, thanks for telling us about it. :-D

I love watching ships coming and going. When we were in Sorrento a few years back, our bedroom overlooked the sea, and would often sit on the balcony, watching the ships sail in and out of port, although the hotel wasn't one of the best I've stayed in, the vew from our balcony was spectacular. Wouldn't mind being there now :-D

Goodness.... I knew the English Channel was busy, but seeing it on that site really brings it home.
I wouldn't like to negotiate a cross-Channel ferry through the midst of them.
I'm not far from there and often look out towards France, but of course you don't see the full picture from a spot on the coast.

Another area of interest is The Solent.
As a child we used to go to our upstairs bedroom ,not far from Portsmouth and look out to the Solent in the distance. We knew when my brother was due to dock or leave Southampton and we loved trying to spot the 3 funnels of the Queen Mary, as she made her way along this stretch of water.

I have looked on there before.

Sometimes, in the days before his stroke, we never did make it with the wheelchair, we would take Fred down to Calshott.

It is right at the bottom of Southampton Water, on the edge of the New Forest and big shipping from Southampton and the military port have to come down Southampton Water and turn to starboard, take an arc and turn to port in front of the Isle of Wight before heading off into the Channel.

We would try to pick a day and time when there was a big one to watch.

I often look at this website beacuse it shows all the shipping traffic in and around the uk and elsewhere. When the ferry leaves the mainland heading for here i can tell when it will arrive and so leave my house in time to meet whoever is coming here.

Also when the search and rescue helicopter is out, we can see where it is, which here is quite frequently over the area where i live.
If you look at the English Channel, it's so overcrowded as is the solent, I was amazed that there are not more marine accidents.

Anyway thought i would share it with you. If anyone already looks at it, please tell us which area interests you and why.
