DC

That might be true ........................

but there is now no celebration of Mothering Sunday in these other countries.

Today is the day when mothers are acknowledged in church, when people pray for them, etc.

Mothers Day was not much to do with Anna Jarvis

It was a much older traditional feast day known as Mothering Sunday

The modern Mothers Day is a by product of this

And do not get me started on Fathers or the Grandparents Day, American constructs designed by card manufacturers to part fools with their money!!!!

Oh yes I fell for them all, but it still gals me. :-D

Hope all those mums have a lovely day.

It's interesting how both Mothering Sunday and Mother's Day have a religious background....

Ann Reeves Jarvis was a social activist, founder of Mothers’ Day Work Clubs, and a unifying force within her community during the American Civil War. As a woman who was also defined by her faith, she was very active within the Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church community. It was during one of her Sunday school lessons in 1876 that Anna Jarvis allegedly found her inspiration for Mother’s Day, as Ann closed the lesson with a prayer, stating,

I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mothers day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life. She is entitled to it.

—Ann Reeves Jarvis

Her campaign finally led to Mother's Day being proclaimed a national holiday in 1914.

What a woman! :-D
