Sham marriages are often stopped when its obvious its only for a British Visa or passport.

The ones for the show are sham marriages too but guess they cant be stopped if both are consenting adults .

Rather makes a mockery of genuine marriages to my mind .

Its just for the money they can make which I think is disgraceful

'Marriage is a way of finding out what kind of man your wife would have preferred'.

(I forget who said this.)

Good grief!

"Chosen from an initial pool of over 200 applicants, six single people, each seeking long-term love, will enter into a legally-binding marriage with a complete stranger - meeting for the very first time at their own wedding where they’ll declare ‘I do’ in front of family and friends."

Perhaps they are 'pretend' marriages? A Registrar would have serious doubts on truly marrying such couples - they have to have a meeting before the event where they are asked a little bit about each other.

The meetings are to try and stop arranged/forced/marriages of convenience ie EU citizens marrying non-EU citizens so that they have the right to remain.

Channel 4 are planning a show with this title in which 6 couples will marry after only meeting 'at the altar'. The cameras will then follow them for six weeks after which they can choose to remain together or get divorced.

Surely the Registrar General should put his/her foot down and declare that such 'marriages' would be invalid as they actually PLAN to get divorced shortly afterwards if things don't work out, and also ban all Registrars from performing them.

Surely any self-respecting Minister of Religion will have nothing to do with it.
