I think they do Susan.. some sort of perception of quality if it costs more.

it's a bit like eBay I suppose......something will be priced at £ 6 say.....and someone will have the same thing at over a hundred pounds ......at first I thought this had to be a mistake but there are too many to be a co-incidence.....i do wonder sometimes if people actually buy at the higher price.

Many year ago I had cause to do some label tagging in a clothing factory warehouse.
These were ticket labels sent to us to be put on as "Recommended selling Price" tickets.
The RSP on these particular ones I was ticketing were for £85.
The garments they had to be attached to were ladies skirts and sold to M&S at £3.99 per garment.
Makes you wonder just who it is that "Recommends" the selling price in the first place.
Tis no wonder the shop can then go on to advertise them with a massive 50% off and still make an obscene profit. :-)

a few years ago I was buying tiles for the bathroom

Was in my local Wickes, and I noticed that they were selling off packs that had been opened cheaply and had 1 or 2 tiles missing - only to notice they were in fact more expensive than the complete packs.

And people were buying them!!!!

The store that ends in "O" ?

Twice recently the boxes of tissues taped together in "twos" have been cheaper than buying one box !

I did point it out to a nearby shelf stacker but he seemed unimpressed !

There was a power blackout here a while back (the power was off for three days).

We weren't in the supermarket, but heard what happened....... lights went off, tills went off..... and loads of people hurried out the door with full trollies!

OK, you have to feed your family, but how many of them made a list and went back to pay?

I might be daft, but I would have paid.

They're probably the same people who eat fruit before it's weighed.

They did have a policy at one of our main supermarket chains where if you were incorrectly charged, you would a) get a refund and b) get the item free... But that got knocked on the head fairly quickly.

However, some time ago I saw very cheap packets of bacon down in the meat dept., and I could see at a glance what had been done, the person doing the weighing and labelling had put the price in as so much per kilo instead of the same amount per 100gms. I being extremely honest ..ahem..ahem..I pressed the help buzzer and told the young lad... he said to me he was surprised too when he weighed them but that it was correct. I bought several packets lol.. and then after the checkout operator had not noticed and my bag was packed I went to the customer services counter to tell them. A group of youngsters were manning (teenaging really) the counter and they could not have given a monkeys.

But apart from meat, fish and bakery packet items all others are rung up on the basis of the bar coding system. Now that can also have its problems .. once again being extremely honest... I could not understand that the cost of my total shopping was so low... I looked at my slip and every so often down the till strip was a - $ amount for Pringle Potato chips .. I think there were about a dozen or more credits. I reported it and the more adult person told me it was happening to everyone who had bought a tin of chips (it was a small tin) was getting that and it was a computer glitch and nothing could be done about it.

Have I done yet... no.. at one time they decided a lot of our supermarkets would be 24 hours except for Statutory days where they were closed. It was late on a Thurs afternoon before Good Friday... and the computers went down. We waited and we waited and we waited.. some people left their laden trolleys and exited.. we were making jokes in my queue about control alt delete, and where did you spend Easter etc.. okay I admit I started the jokes but the rest joined in. Little boy in front of me was getting a large tub of ice-cream. Finally they said that they would guess the amounts and ring them up and you could pay cash. I knew I did not have enough cash, but took mine through and another miracle the amount I was charged was so minimal I wish I had stocked up some more. The only thing that was correctly charged was a magazine because it had its price on it. and the little (Maori) boy, I sent him back to the freezer and told him put that ice cream back it will be melted now and get a cold one.. he ran off returned and he got the big tub for a pittance, and I got a beaming smile.

Persie.. :-) :-) :-) :-)

I bought some coffee recently. When I got to the checkout I told the assistant that I didn't want the special price....... she looked at me as if I was nuts.......... then I told her the "special" price was $1 more than the normal price (on the shelf, under the "special" label).

She called the manager, it took nearly 10 minutes to sort it out. Ridiculous. :-|

The other day I was in one of our large supermarkets.....ends with O ;-)

has anyone else come across the article that has been reduced in price.....was £50 now only £49.99 ?

The other week we pointed out to the manager that the offer of 4 tins of beans for a certain price was more than if we bought them individually....she did change it, but I wonder how many others had bought any of the items without checking.....

come to that, how many more items are there surreptitiously hood winking us into believing we are getting a bargain.......I can't believe the first one was a mistake....the sign was big enough for all to see...even the sign maker ......the small print was the sneaky part methinks.
