Our dentist opted out of the NHS good dentist if a bit expensive. We always gave an appointment given to us for a check up when we finish treatment. Then no reminder sent, miss it, you pay.

That's a nice surprise then Jude, although I personally think over 60's should get completely free dental treatment.*says this newly 60 year old*

It would be cheaper for me to have a full set of dentures than to have my 4 crowns replaced................*starts saving with the pittance left over at the end of the month* :-)

Oh eck Kitty, thank god she's not there anymore!!!
Like the Godzilla story ;-) ;-)

We don't get reminders now, they stopped that about 2 yrs ago. When this dentist was preparing his new surgery he advertised in local paper that they would be taking on NHS patients when open and to ring as soon as they did, which we did, no questions asked. We filled in a form on health etc at the beginning and get it handed to us to update with every new appointment.

Vic had appointment this morning, has been having a new plate made, he already has one tooth with a plate and one tooth fell out a few months ago, hence the new plate being made.....welllll he went to said dentist this morning had to have 4 teeth out and the new plate fitted....wait for it.........

£180.....all inclusive, not bad ahhhhh, so far us the NHS works:)

jude :-)

As most of them get free treatment because they are on benefits, I can't understand why they don't go.

I am self-conscious with my current front tooth gap.............the autistic boy I work with asked if Godzilla had knocked it out!!

I said yes, but I trod really hard on his foot and he ran away crying( Godzilla, not the little one)................he(said boy) was well impressed with my bravery :-D :-D

Oh heck..............here I am sitting with a gap where my crown should be thanking my lucky stars my dentist will see me tomorrow.

Mind you, the last one I saw 18 months ago in the same practice was evil......she actually removed one of my teeth with no anaesthetic.

I cried with the pain it was so bad..............she said as it was infected the local hadn't taken and she had been as quick as she could!!

She doesn't work there any more :-D :-D

It is truly hard to get any dentist NHS or otherwise

I have no option but to go private as I do not qualify for NHS.

The criteria for NHS is extremely tight.

Last lot of treatment cost me nearly £1000.00......

It isn't only NHS dentists who strike you off for non-attendance, many private ones do it too.

Other than children, it is well nigh on impossible to get NHS treatment where I live, but that said, the cost is not that much different and the service is superb.

I quite like our dentist, nice man.

The hygienist is "difficult"...... she speaks to patients as if they were children! I must be at least ten years older than she is. One of these days I'll bite her.

My dentist has a new system, where you fill in a (tick box) card, that asks questions like, if you smoke, drink fizzy drinks, use fluoride toothpaste etc, then, based on the state of your teeth and your habits, he determines whether to see you in 6 months or a year.

Well, he replaced my original dentist years ago, and has always taken great pleasure in bemoaning the fact I smoke, and automatically charging for a clean with the hygienist, whether I wanted/needed one or not :-|

I was amazed when I went last time - £25 cheaper than normal (no automatic hygienist - he actually cleaned my teeth!), filled in his card - and he doesn't need to see me for a year!

I was sooooo tempted to point out that I still smoked, BUT, at 57 with all my own teeth - albeit a bit gappy - it was a long time since the brace was removed, and they now 'run around' my head at will- last filling 45 years ago and no caps/crowns/root canals etc was he conceding that my teeth were actually quite good, especially for my age?

Our dentist sends cards when we're due for a checkup (every six months).

My reminder arrived on Monday :-(
