Fast tracking position of Police Superintendent?

OneFootInTheGrave Report 14 May 2014 14:35

The role of Matrons, who were qualified nurses, in our hospitals, was replaced by managers/administrators who had no experience of nursing - now it appears that Police Superintendents are to be replaced by, for a better word - managers, who have no experience of police work, these individuals could become Police Superintendents after 18 months training.

I don't think this will do much for the moral of the policeman on the beat hoping to build a career - what do you think of this idea?

National Newspapers are currently running adverts under the heading of - Direct Entry (Superintendent) Programme

First the police commissioners, now this

Is there going to be anyone in the 'top' scale of the police who knows what they're talking about?

Just goes to prove that what I posted on GHeather's thread - We must colonize space! is true:-

"I thought that we already had people from Earth living on another planet - they are called politicians" ;-)

Probably not Maggie, but how many politicians really know about how the real world we scrape by in works.....or doesn't when they come up with yet another stupid idea :-|

Fully agree, Kitty. Politicians should work for at least 3 months on the 'front line' of the area they will be in charge of.
Probably be the first honest work they'd ever done.
Perhaps then, decent care workers would receive more than a pittance.

......and Gove, as befits his ability should attend a reception class.......

The police ( the bosses and therefore the men) are all now political pawns. This is just one step further along the way and is now a fact of life
.
I served for thirty years and weep for the police service as I knew it.
Happy days

Hello Harry, good to see you posting <3 <3

Also interesting to have input from a former policeman.

Perhaps it will bring about an improvement. After all. many of the current incumbents don't have a lot to write home about.

OneFootInTheGrave Report 15 May 2014 13:12

I don't agree that many of the current incumbents don't have a lot to write home about - there will be some, as there are always a few incompetent people in many organisations who should not be in senior positions.

Well not so long ago while Sasha was in hospital ,I was informed that the person in charge of the ward was "A Matron" which was a bit of a surprise to Sasha because that role was usually taken by a "Staff Nurse" It seems that the role of Matron has been downgraded somewhat. :-(
