Our neighbour took 3 hours to get to Cardiff from here this morning. Glad we are not travelling today

We were in Dorset from 16th May Graham

Ann

We too sat on the beach for ages with our ice creams at Trebah. Probably sat next to you! We sat against the wall not on the chairs.

No we didn't go on the rope bridge, OH doesn't like heights and I didn't fancy it. I loved Heligan, loved the jungle part and loved the story behind it with the gardeners who went off to war. I bought a copy of the booklet, Lost Gardens, Lost gardeners and found it really interesting.

No Godolphin is not that good. Very small, nice little cafe. Some media or other were there when we were there filming a Rosamund Pilcher story so we couldn't go everywhere. you can only go in part of the castle like house anyway as most of it is a holiday let. The gardens are quite nice but not at all big and not really well developed, mainly left in their old state. They were the reason the NT bought the place as they think they are the oldest gardens. The entrance though was through a wood which was covered in beautiful bluebells.

At Trelissick we were able to go into the house which was interesting.
We were staying at Carnon Down which is five minutes from Trelissick.

I was in Cornwall on the 18th of May. :-)
I'm heading down to Devon on tuesday. The traffic shouldn't be so bad then, I hope :-S

I love Glendurgan, but we just hadn't got the energy to fit it in this time. Fancy that......we could have met at Trebah as we were there on the Tuesday and did Trelissick that day as well! We were on the beach at Trebah ages with our lovely icecreams! We were at the Lost Gardens of Heligan on the Friday. Did you try the ropewalk? I got about a third of the way across, but my legs were wobbling so much and with my dodgy knees needing to do the uphill climb back to the exit after I said 'back' to OH at that point. I managed to turn around, but he couldn't and had to walk backwards to get off!! lol. What a sight we must have made!!

I don't think we've been to Godolphin before.......are they good?

Ann, wish I'd known you were there we could have net maybe. Except for 10th we were very lucky. On the 10th the wind was 30mph with 50mph gusts.

We went to Trelissick on Sunday 11th and Trebah on the Tuesday. We also went to Glendurgan, trengwainton and Godolphin and ended that week in the Lost Gardens of Heligan

We were there 10th to the 17th Ann, only a day different to you! Weren't we lucky with the weather!! :-D :-D :-D We were staying near Redruth. Went to see the lovely gardens like Trebah and Trelissick. I know you love gardens and taking pics the same as me. We went around the Minack Theatre for the first time too....fantastic. We also booked tickets for a Joe Brown concert at Truro....remember him? Well he was brilliant and had everyone on their feet at the end. We might even have passed each other...lol. Oh I'm wanting to go back now!! :-)

And that is why I am delaying my trip to Cornwall

We considered the A38 but, remembering it from pre the M5 days decided to stay on the motorway. Going our was we were mostly moving but going towards the West Country they were stopped for miles. If the were going to Cornwall goodness knows how long they will take. And people who weave from lane to lane undertaking all the time don't help the situation.

Annx we were in Cornwall from 9th to 16th of May sounds like we overlapped

it's a Bank Holiday weekend, isn't it??

OH got to know all the country lanes around Tiverton in Devon during the 2½ years that he taught down there! He, and all the locals, used them to avoid them "darn tourists"

We saw all the roadworks when we went to Cornwall a fortnight ago but it wasn't too bad then (no one working as far as we could see!), but it was enough to make OH divert and come a different way for the home journey. We both thought it would be horrendous in a few weeks time when the holiday season got going. It seems it already has. :-S

South West on the M5 tonight, the best of luck. when we came back from Dorset, we joined the M5 at Bridgewater, we had stopped at Street outlet centre and the journey home should have taken an hour and a half. It took an hour longer. In places we were almost at a standstill. But those going towards Devon had it worse than us with a jam going on for miles from just South of Bristol, no obvious reason in some places 3 miles of road works in another but a very very high volume of traffic. :-(

Anyway we are pleased to be home even if it did throw it down with rain when unpacking the car. :-)
