Our library, not an old building but in the centre of the city and not that old, burned down several years ago. Lots of books, many valuable and unique, were lost as were other items stored there but we have a wonderful new library and meeting place etc called The Forum that is a central and important part of the city rebuilt now.

Lots of people donated books and things to help replenish stock and set up other collections and it's a place well used and loved.

I hope Glasgow can soon get to work on the Art School.

As this is such an iconic and beautiful building it will not be long before all the damaged areas have been restored to their full glory.

Shame that Southwark Council cannot be bothered about our own Cuming Museum which was so badly burned and lots of artefacts lost.

They have a temp. exhibition but are not giving out much info on what is happening.

The people of Glasgow are a proud and determined lot, they have faced many disasters and overcome them, they will overcome this one, the Rennie Mackintosh Building of the Glasgow School of Art will be restored to it's former glory.

The link I provided says the same, altho the pictures tell their own story. I am sure the people of Glasgow will unite in helping to bring this building back to life.

As you said Janet, thankfully, no loss of life.

MC ......... that's very encouraging!

I was afraid that everything had been lost when I saw the news this morning.

What a terrible disaster. All fires are destructive but this is something else. So sad for the students and the people of Glasgow. Thankfully no loss of life.

Thankfully latest news reports say 90% of the building is still viable and 70% of the contents have been protected.

I am so sad to see the news of this fire, all that wonderful Rennie Mackintosh history going up in smoke plus the hard work of the students there.

I hope the building can be restored to it's former glory altho it will never be quite the same.

My thoughts to the students whose degree work is affected.
