The aim of the European Market was to integrate Europe and prevent further war. The aim of the Far Right is to divide the Working Classes.

Sirius

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 14:10

Not "insinuating" that. But the method as described in the quote is not dis-similar? Play on the fear, offer the 'answer' , get into power. Then leave the electorate wondering what the hell they have got themselves into?

supercrutch Report 26 May 2014 13:59

Are you insinuating that Farage is to be compared to Hitler?

Sirius

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 13:42

Here's a quote for you

"[XXXXX 's policies] were half-baked, racist clap-trap... but among the jumble of hysterical ideas XXXXXX showed a sure sense of how to appeal to the lowest instincts of frightened masses."

So who is the quote refering to? ;-)

Nazi Germany | History.co.uk

At the beginning of the 1930s, Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party exploited widespread and deep-seated discontent in Germany to attract popular and political support.

pmsl Errol, the stoning scene is my all time favorite, laughing just thinking of it :-D

Jehovah! Jehovah! :-D :-D :-D

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 13:35

It's unfortunate that someone keeps reporting ErrolSheep's comment. It is not unrelated that many people saw Hitler's policies as good for Germany when he started out, that is a documented historical fact.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 26 May 2014 13:34

I am somewhat reminded of the scene in Monty Python's Life of Brian where the chap is stoned for saying Jehoveh.

It is historically documented that Hitler, despite being an evil person, did a lot of good for Germany in the 30s.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 26 May 2014 13:32

Exactly, Sirius, and well documented.

Sirius

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 13:30

ah right, well yes I can see that was a bit controversial, but not incorrect per se.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 26 May 2014 13:27

I said that the Nazi (National Socialist) party could arguably be said to be left wing and that Hitler, although he was responsible for a great deal of evil, actually also did some good.

Agree with OFITG having watched the results and reactions throughout the night. It was a wake up call and woe betide any party that doesn't heed the message delivered by UKIP.

BNP leader explains his defeat by saying people voted for "Ukip's racist policies instead".

well he should know, if he recognises another duck so should we!

I wonder how many people who voted for them can actually name some of UKIPs policies aside from those on immigration and coming out of Europe?

Sirius

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 12:59

I missed what ErrolSheep said?

I was about to post that it is not entirely true that Euro scepticism is holding sway surely? If that were the case wouldn't the Labour party have been severely trounced? instead UKIP has hit the Lib Dems, Conservatives and the smaller parties.

With the rise of the Right in Europe, with the posturing of Putin with regard to 'letting' the former USSR states 'rejoin if they want to' ( my nicer interpretation of his stance) then I am somewhat leaning to the view that we definitely should stay IN Europe to ensure some kind of balance. Politically it may be essential evem if financially we could cope out of the EU ( debateable I think).

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 26 May 2014 12:45

um just a small point...people often use the term Nazi incorrectly. It actually is a term that comes from the words Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, in other words National Socialist Party, the political party of which Hitler was eventually leader.
It does not mean German, or thug, or secret police etc etc
Hitler actually achieved a great deal of good (of course I am not saying that he also was not behind a good deal of evil) and it could be argued that he was somewhat left wing.
National Socialism in its various forms does tend to be somewhat left wing.

It would appear that despite the UKIP gains, the majority of voters are still pro Europe, as UKIP only managed to win less than 35% of MEP seats.

Incidentally what are the problems of hard working people and how can they be addressed, bearing in mind that any government, no matter what its political persuasion can do nothing else but to decide how to spend or re-distribute what it takes in taxes or raises from borrowing.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 26 May 2014 12:01

What concerns me about the results of the recent elections is that, senior politicians of all persuasions, are running around the media saying the rise of Eurosceptic parties is a wake-up call about Europe and that the results were a protest message about how voters feel about Europe - they do not seem to realise that the message is not just about Europe.

What our politicians need to realise is, the results of the recent elections were not just a wake-up call about Europe, they were also a wake-up call that the majority of the British public are fed up with, the failures of the political elite of this country, to tackle the problems facing ordinary hard working people.

The results are, ordinary hard working people, telling our politicians that they are not happy with their lot and demanding government address their concerns, they are fed up with lies, spin, smoke & mirrors, scare mongering, and austerity, they want to see policies that will improve their lot and allow them to have the chance to fulfill their hopes and aspirations, not knee jerk reactions to the news headlines of the day.

The three main parties, Conservative, Labour, and the Liberal Democrats, have to urgently address the message from these elections, and once they have stopped blaming everyone else except themselves for the results, they need to change course and start addressing the aspirations of the majority of ordinary hardworking people, and they need to start doing that now.

If they persist in believing that the recent elections were just about Europe and not also about UK domestic policies, and carry on regardless, the General Election in 2015 will be an even bigger bloodbath than those they witnessed in the recent elections.

Sirius Report 26 May 2014 11:36

Traditionally nations with financial problems, unemployment etc have always blamed the 'outsider'.

I think if anything the way the Right is rising in Europe and Putin is posturing and wanting some ( ?! ) of the old USSR back in the fold, we might need politically to stay in Europe even if we could manage financially outside it ( debeateable).

SueCar

SueCar Report 26 May 2014 11:28

Yes, much easier to blame the unemployed, immigrants etc
rather than the bankers and vested interests.
