I actually saw a cuckoo today; for the first time this year. :-)
I usually see one in April. So this one seems a bit late. Quite a few have been spotted down in Devon apparently. (Which is where I'm off to tomorrow)

The cuckoo comes in April
He sings his song in May
He croons his tune till the middle of June
And then he flies away

Thanks Ann. I've not heard that rhyme before. :-)

They let her out in the last week of April at Heathfield.

From out of a wood did a cuckoo fly,
Cuckoo.
He came to a manger with joyful cry,
Cuckoo;
He hopped, he curtsied, round he flew,
And loud his jubilation grew,
Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo.

A strange bird the cuckoo, it sits on the grass.

It's wings neatly folded, it's beak up i n the air?

In this strange position it sings "twit, twit".

It's hard to sings "twit, twit".

It's hard to sing "cuckoo" with a beak full.

You fill in the RR bits!

They are difficult to spot. The sound they make travels a long way and it's hard to tell where it comes from.
