Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 5 Jun 2014 06:35

Thanks folks .

We love her to bits but know we won't have her for much longer.
When she has her off days like she did Monday and Tuesday I think is this it and get a bit panicky . Nothing I can do I know but it is a worry.

She had a good day yesterday perked up with her eating and did well. She did have some fluid yesterday at the vets along with her daily meds and she also had some glucose fluid to try and soften things! The vet wants to clear her through and then give another med that will keep her soft so things can pass.

She is on my lap at the moment , purring away and all relaxed .

She did come on the bed last night and when she saw I was awake in the night she came up onto my chest and we had a love in ! She purrs and nuzzles me for lots of strokes and when I stop she pushes her head under my hand for more.

She isn't ready yet to throw in the towel that's for sure but then things can turn very quickly so it's making the most of the good days whilst we can

Oh Shirley you have my full sympathy. We too have an old Lady in much the same situation. We had her at six weeks old and she has graced us with her loving company for over 17 years. She can still be a feisty old lass but definitely has her very off days. We know we are now just waiting for her time to come same as you on the vets advice. Still giving her loads of love although not cuddles , she has never liked them.

Shirley, I do understand how you feel, I had a similar situation with one of my cats, Toby, who was constantly at the vets when my son was just 2, he seemed to want to stay with us but wasn't right, and they couldn't get a handle on why he was so poorly and losing weight. In the end I went to a different vet, one I came to trust as you do yours, who would tell it like it is, and she advised letting Toby go as his quality of life was becoming poor. He was about 9, bless him.

Do keep a close watch on Mirabelle as sometimes cats know when their time has come and disappear to be alone at the last. It's even more worrying then as you don't know where they are and if they are suffering. Hope your little lady stays with you for a good while yet.

Thinking of you

Shirley - she will tell you herself - you will know as will the vet.

Lynne

She isn,t at that stage yet . She still enjoys a cuddle, grooms herself and likes to wander out into the garden . She does has off days but most times she is ticking over . It's just other problems are developing slowly

We are taking the vets advice and certainly won't let her suffer .our vet is wonderful and does tell things as they are and is honest about her outcome and would certainly say if and when she thinks it kinder to call it a day .

Cannot do anything other than send a hug and as others have said keep giving her the love you have over the years. <3

Hope all goes well but although your little cat is an old girl she is an old girl who has had a good life thanks to your tender loving care. There isn't anything else that you can personally do for her now except keep giving her the love an attention as you have over the last seventeen years.

Am feeling very orf at the mo . It's been 11 weeks now of daily visits to the vet with our Mirabellle .she has liver failure due to a bacterial invasion from her bowel .
Have been told its terminal now and it's only the daily meds keeping her going

Have tried giving them at home but she is so hit and miss if she will eat so can't put them in her food and not able to administer them orally .

Now poor love is having problems emptying her bowels as the liver is so off balance it's affecting her fluid circulation so her poo is getting very dry and impacting .

Our vet is very good and is trying all she can to keep her going but she said today sometimes it isn't the initial problem that takes them off but side effects that develope

So am feeling very off myself & now depressed cos I can't do anything but worry about our little girl who we have from aged 7 months .she is now 17 so she is an old girl ,but then so am I !!!
