Phyll says she doesn't have FTM!

Yes, you can download your gedcom from Ancestry, and save it either directly to the formatted disc, or to your main computer and drag it to the disc.

Unless you convert it to something else (someone will tell you what) it won't make much sense in the gedcom form unless you have an off line tree programme.

Yes, all newer versions of FTM will convert trees originally created on earlier software releases. Far better than using a gedcom transfer as you are less likely to loose anything in the process.

Latest version will synchronise with your tree on Anc so you don't even have to copy it across as it will do it for you, and keep both up to date with each other as you make changes.

I bought a new laptop with windows 7 on it . My old FTM 2005/6 version wouldn't load as not compatible . I bought the 2013 version and loaded it on the laptop on opening it it gave me the option to download the tree I havr on Ancestry which I had uploaded from the old version.

Very clever ,it downloaded the tree and put it in the new FTM format

Wish I knew! had a new PC built, old Family Tree Maker not compatible, but the 'back-ups' still on line but no way to open - do I give up! but some Ancestry formats better than Genes R, & don't like to give in!!! :-S
