Island

Island Report 9 Jun 2014 21:35

I'd rather they got inked than inflict their junk on the rest of us :-S

It could be worse................some people have their beloved's name tattooed on their bod..................then split up with them a short time after.

KittytheLearnerCook

KittytheLearnerCook Report 9 Jun 2014 18:59

Each to their own, but it isn't our way.....................we just continue to live happily together and leave the world to draw it's own conclusions :-)

Very weird indeed.

It's almost like insecure teenager behaviour.

KittytheLearnerCook

KittytheLearnerCook Report 9 Jun 2014 18:36

My husband and I love each other, we don't feel the need to "show" our love to anyone by decorating a padlock ..................weird :-S :-S

I never saw a 'ghost bike' in London. Do they not have cemetaries anymore? :-S

The Paris one was the only one we've seen. There are (were?) river side 'tat' stalls nearby who sold the padlocks at inflated prices.

I was in Belfast 2 weeks ago and spotted hundreds of love locks on a bridge there too.
Many had been professionally engraved whilst others were written in nail varnish !

Hungerford Bridge has to be cleared regularly.

I think this started somewhere like Italy and has over the last couple of years spread worldwide.

It is to do with LOVE, you are supposed to write your names on the lock, lock it to a fence/bridge to show you are locked together.

Painted white bikes 'ghost bikes' are often to be found/placed by other cyclists where a cyclist has died. They will have some flowers and candles on them as well, in remembrance of those who have died. Very common in London.

precisely, .....never mind the eyesore of these locks,

just think of the weight!!

is this also something to do with abandond bicycle locks n chains? or is that summat different?

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 9 Jun 2014 14:30

I think the councils are missing a trick, one guy with a pair of bolt cutters and a van, then down the scrap yard for a weigh-in ;-)

I totally agree with Island.
It looks ridiculous and many a famous bridge, landmark building etc has been ruined by this gesture which is considered by some to be sweet and romantic but by many could be deemed to be pure vandalism and at best an eyesore.

I have seen it in many cities across Europe - usually on very old and beautiful structures.

I'm with the flowers and chocolates brigade on this one.

Yarn bombing is another pet hate of mine.

Island

Island Report 9 Jun 2014 13:35

But these things don't just stop at one though.

Now it's been in the news a whole new generation will be trotting along to the nearest bridge 'cuz it's wot you do innit'.

:-\

and don't get me started on those 'yarn bombing' eye sores :-0 :-0 :-0

Mersey Report 9 Jun 2014 13:34

Each to their own is what I say :-D

JustGinnie

JustGinnie Report 9 Jun 2014 13:33

Not heard of this before but don't like it. Not a good look imo.

Mersey

Mersey Report 9 Jun 2014 13:30

Ehhhh because they wanted to :-S

Island

Island Report 9 Jun 2014 13:29

Why? :-S
Could they not have put one on their own property?
What's wrong with a meal out, flowers and a box of chocs?

Mersey

Mersey Report 9 Jun 2014 13:24

My Mum and Dad have one in the Albert Dock they put it there a few years ago for their Anniversary .....I thought it was quite sweet actually <3 <3 :-D

I was tempted to post 'what a load of sheep' but thought I might be RR'd :-0

Seriously though........what a load of sheep!

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Jun 2014 13:10

I had cause to be in Chester last week and saw many of them on the foot bridge over the Dee.
