You may have read that we had trouble with our car at the weekend and that the nice breakdown man found out what the problem was, and wrote down the problem and the number of the part.

Yesterday OH dropped a letter in to our garage that does our repairs. They are usually very good, the note detailed the problem and asked if they could see the car and fit the new part this week as we go away next weekend. Asked them to phone.

1.30, still no phone call so OH rings them. Ah yes letter is still on desk, unopened!!!! so he goes all through it then at their suggestion, takes the car down for them to look at.

They won't say they can do it, won't order the part until they have seen the problem for themselves. Explained it only happened intermittantly and the only reason the breakdown man could find the fault was because the problem happened and left the management light on so his machine could pick it up. They still don't want to do it without seeing the fault. OH gets annoyed and says 'can you order the sensor?' yes we can if we need it. In the end he told them to order and fit the sensor. I know they don't want it to come back on them but it won't as he has told them he wants it done but what a rigmarole. I suppose the next thing will be him looking on the net to find another car. He hates it when cars go wrong. (What do you expect with 10 year old cars!!!)

I remember when cars were less than reliable and turning the key in the morning was always a moment to hold your breath, with luck it was r.r.r.r.r.r RRRRRR Vroom!
and then a mile or so of juggling with the choke :-(
If something went wrong it was out with the toolkit and WD40 a few minutes under the bonnet and away.

Now it's in turn the key ond off!
Ah, but when it does go wrong you open the bonnet and see more electrical components on the air filter than the whole wiring of a Cortina!

Great while they work, a nightmare when they get a bit old and cronky.

Gone are the days when if it would,nt start on the battery out would come the trusty starting handle and in most cases off it would go. :-D Now you need a computer to tell you whats wrong (Usually very expensive). :-(

You may remember that our brand new "computertised car" broke down in a car park in Edinburgh a few weeks ago.
It was delivered back to the house whilst we were on holiday and it has been fine since then
We are off on a driving tour of the inner hebrides at the end of this week and heaven help us if it happens again on any of the smaller islands! :-S :-S :-S :-S
