OMG so funny.

knitting patten are made for right handed people
am i right

now what if you are left handed how do you follow the patten
as every think is the wrong way round

mum teach my children how to knit when they was small
only peal and plain same as she teach me.
but me not interested in knitting what so ever

But daughter now 30 odd is now trying to take up knitting
and only can do peal and plain so she got a book to show her how to
knit different pattens.
she could not work out why the Patton was not taking shape and getting in a right muddle with the needles and wool

she then go's on YouTube to see how its done and there you have it
me and mum are left handed daughter is right handed
but being shown when little using her left hand she can now only knit with left handed

I am left handed but was taught to knit by my Nana, so I knit right handed, always have.

But patterns are not right handed as such, but books that you can buy too learn will most likely be right handed.

I it is normally crochet patterns that causes problems for us lefties!

Many years ago I tried to show a friend how to knit.

I'm right-handed, she's left.

She was getting confused, said it was all backwards........... then I had an idea....... I sat in front of a mirror and she watched me in the mirror!

Ofcourse she couldn't see everything I was doing properly, but it helped.

I think she knitted one sweater, but didn't enjoy it. :-(

Sorrry I went to bed just after I posted last night as i'm on an early shift this morning.

My local wool shop has knitting lessons, they have a lady available who knits left handed and will come in and help any left handers that want to learn to knit. Perhaps your daughter could ask at a wool shop if they know of anyone that could help out.

If just doing basic garter or stocking stich then there should not be to much problem following a pattern, it is when doing fancy stiches or cabling you would need to think about it more carefully. Also if following a chart! At least I would think so if my feeble experiments trying to learn crochet was anything to go by!!

One more thing she could try is to use long needles [35cms] you can tuck the one that the stiches are going onto under your arm for extra support, something my Nana didn't teach me but my Aunt did!!

There is a bit of info on this link:
http://www.craftsy.com/article/left-handed-knitting#

btw My Dad could knit, could turn the heel of a sock better than anyone I knew [or know now I think of it] then again as he said he was in India in the RAF so if he didn't do it no-one else would!!
