Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 16 Jun 2014 12:59

Just got a call from 07593880116

I warily picked up the phone as it seemed to be a mobile and thought maybe my bros who changes his nos more times than he changes his socks !!!

A woman spoke " good afternoon ,are you the home owner ? " Said without thinking yes and got the reply "good ,how are you today madam ? "My survival instinct kicked in and I said you shouldn't be ringing this number as its on the telephone preference and put the phone down
Googling the number seems others get the same opening gambit every time . I rang the number back as we have nos witheld anyway and got "this is the Tesco mobile messaging device the person you want can't take your call at the moment please leave your nos and message and they will get back to you "

How they got our nos goodness knows as we are ex directory. Number withheld, won't accept incoming calls from nos withheld phones etc etc

Have reported the number to the TPS but without knowing who the company is they probably can't do anything

If I might just mention Ann, someone I know had similar calls re insurance cover on their boiler and water pipes, from companies whose names were very 'similar' to their actual insurance company, basically saying they needed to up their monthly premiums. It is one to be wary of.

Please do change that card. :-)

AnnCardiff I am genuinely sorry that you have been conned yet again in such a short space of time.
As Sirius said, they do seem to target older people who 'may' be more gullible.

I am now aware there is no longer and Office for Fair trading - it is now Financial Conduct Authority - so thank you Errol for your words of comfort

Action Fraud - 0300 1232040

Action Fraud were amazing and even offer victim support - must admit this has made me feel very fragile indeed - as many of you know, I suffer from clinical depression and this has had a major impact on me

good news - Barclaycard are refunding the money!!! Called "Action Fraud" this morning and they were extremely helpful, given me a crime number and a password - they are looking into the company and are also contacting Barclaycard. Action Fraud are also sending me emails updating me with details of fraudulent companies

Elizabeth2469049 Report 14 Jun 2014 16:24

I had this some years ago - I in fact won a year's sub to Sky from a puzzle magazine, but arranged for this to go to my daughters in their names (they were sharing at the time). Only about a month later I had a letter telling me my sub was nearly up (can't remember the name of the firm) - daughter checked with Sky who assured her she had the rest of the year to go. I went back to the magazine who assured me they hadn't given my name or address to anybody.

When I had this phone call from supposedly Sky??? it was to my mobile...why? I had to have a landline to have sky so they must have known it

Think I was more annoyed that they called during Coronation street :-D

You can see from Shirley's post (if we hadn't already realised) that this EDS company is acting outside the law.

Quite a few phone up and seem to know quite a lot about us. I challenged one recently who knew my real name and address: "Is that Lord Tonypandy I am speaking to? Yes. Do you live in Castell Coch (he pronounced it fairly correctly)? Yes. Do you have a Rolls Royce Registration LT 1? Yes. Are you currently paying £1352 for your car insurance? How do you know all of that? We use the phone book, the electoral register and our own records for marketing purposes.

This was one of these International Calls. I was quite spooked they knew all that about me and have now gone ex-Directory and tick the not to be published box when I register for my franchise.

I feel they are acting totally illegally, and certainly against the spirit of Britishness that Dermot is exploring on another thread. I believe the two people who have conned Ann into giving her card details out should be behind bars for a long long time. Perhaps Trading Standards can advise.

made Sky aware today

I have rung the bogus Sky lot on numerous occasions - all I get is "Thank you for calling EDS Sky cover, all our staff are busy at the moment, please leave a message and we'll get back to you" then it cuts off so you can't leave a message

Just a thought and without reading back Ann. Have you actually contacted Ske and made them aware?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 14 Jun 2014 15:26

Can you not go back to these people and say you aren't sky and I already have cover so I want this contract cancelled

If they refuse threaten to go to trading standards

Many years ago I too got scammed by some company pretending to be sky and offering me insurance cover now that my years guarantee was up .

They knew all about my sky contract and I really thought they were Sky .even to being able to ring me on my ex directory phone number which I only give out if absolutely necessary

I took out the insurance and renewed it several times. Each time thinking it was sky . Even the paperwork they sent was headed sky protect

Sky eventually did contact me about having cover and I said I already have it !!!
They took down the details and said well we will contact you again when your years cover with these people are up

They had got wind of the bogus company pretending to be them and they took them to court and won and the company was wound up .all customers who had running contracts with the company got their cover taken over by sky as part of the court judgment

I really thought at the time I was dealing with sky so know how easy it is to get the wool pulled over your eyes .

I would try to get this bogus company to cancel and refund your money

jax Report 14 Jun 2014 15:01

Not sure why you would want to pay £100+ a year for insurance when you can buy a new box for not a great deal more.
I have had Sky HD + for 5 years, not had any problems apart from adverse weather conditions and the odd hiccup which can be sorted with a bit of tweaking
