The same type holiday as BC.....in a villa, somewhere the sun always shines and a pool to dip into :-D :-D

For once I am in agreement with Graham. Too many people miss the delights of Somerset to get to Devon and Cornwall. Not that I don't love both of them.

What more could anyone want ? Sea, some lovely beaches, Exmoor, which I think is the most beautiful place in the world, streams, rivers and woods and the Levels, a delight for bird watchers and lots of historic villages and beautiful thatched cottages.

Ok we have got Butlins, somewhere I have never been, but they do bring a bit of money into the town, unfortunately as well as a few dubious sorts, especially when there is an adults weekend, like we have just had. Lots of rather overweight men with shaved heads and tattoos and football shirts.

I find it hard to drag myself away but I think my dream holiday would have to be somewhere nice and warm with golden beaches and blue seas and my family with me.

Oh and as Scozz says, anywhere where I get dinner cooked for me and someone else to wash up and make the beds.

Oh and I do love Tuscany and the Italian Lakes ........

Never went to Butlins, but tried a Club Med in the early 1980s.... and hated it!

I used to enjoy going camping, but with my back & knees, those days are over.

A cruise? No way, as I am the world's worst sailor, I get seasick if I walk on a wet lawn. I know many people who love cruising, but to me it would be like being locked up in a hotel with hundreds of people.......many of them drunk & obnoxious :-(

We live in such a nice place, it's difficult to think of where we'd like to go (we often take a couple of days off, stay somewhere with lots of restaurants & shopping, that we don't have here).

I'd like a nice quiet place, no screaming kids (or adults)........ relaxing....... dinner cooked for me every night.......... time to sit and read........ no housework...........no stress.... lovely! OH would probably agree, but he'd want a golf course. :-D

Hmm - a 'round-the world-cruise' - for 'er, so I can eat what isn't good for me at home!
Note to self, delete this before she logs on after tea.

Would like 4 weeks doing that.

Shirley, thanks for asking :-) It was the holiday of a lifetime. A large villa half way up a mountain in Tuscany..something I had always dreamed of...and. unlike Maggie, the sun shone every day. I was surrounded by those I love and we had a swimming pool all to ourselves, surrounded by pine trees. Yes, a perfect holiday. I don't contribute to the boards very often, not much energy! but I read them and just to let you know am thinking of you and yours. <3

OMG one year we hadnt booked to go away as our daughter was on her own with her two children and she /we where so intertwined as she needed our support (her OH had left her another story lol ) she was struggling working part time to fit in with the kids school etc and money was very tight for her.

I looked online and a weeks holiday at Butlins Minehead seemed OK moneywise and we could share a chalet .WE all HATED it . the chalet was crap ,dirty etc and had pillows you were expected to sleep on that were so stained one wondered what with .

we spent every day out of the place visiting places of interest in the area but did venture some evenings into the main clubhouse where its was booze booze booze and third rate entertainment . some of the facilities advertised like an indoor pool werent open

Still a talking point some 30 years later.

Guess we arent really Butlins/ Holiday Camp people :-(

A small house, in the middle of the country. No neighbours or kids, just complete silence for a nice long weekend.

My vision of hell. Being stuck on a cruise ship with hundreds of people most of whom I would not normally give the time of day to.

Hate being organised by others and told that I am haivng fun. Never fancied a holiday camp either for the same reason.

Any holiday with my family - which we have every year.
Tried Tuscany - rained - which was unusual! Trip a bit too strenuousl too.
The next year we tried Cornwall - rained
Camping in Wiltshire - not so much rain
Somerset - even less rain
This year it's Devon.
It's easier to go on holiday fairly near to home - less stress for those with children

:-D :-D

We would travel down the 303 and turn off at Stonehenge to drive to our friends house ,she lives in a pretty little village that you just pass through . Her house is part of a little hamlet down a narrow country lane . It's all very pretty around there .

Incidentally our grandson was born on Trowbridge as our SIL was in the army and stationed in Warminster at the time .

Love Devon too as well as Cornwall ,spent some good holidays in both places when we were younger on our trusty motor bike and sidecar we had then .

Afraid as hubby no longer drives & I can't manage long drives as the back and knee don't like it , can't see us going that way again. We live in Kent so its a long way for us

Wiltshire is lovely. But a few miles along the A303 beyond Stonehenge, there is a lovely spot known as Devon.

Come on down & enjoy a Devon cream tea - a delight to die for.

And what's more, You don't need to worry about Passport renewal queues to come to this delightful area. We don't bother with such administrative matters down here.

Have never been on one but I fancy a nice sea cruise holiday.

Both of us have difficulty with walking now .hubby more than me so a sightseeing holiday is out if it involves to much walking

We haven't been on holiday now for 4 years . We used to spend a week in Wiltshire with my best friend from school and her hubby but due to health issues on both sides we have to be content now with phone calls
