Our corner shop closed when they removed the Post Office franchise :-(

The 'powers that be' said we could use the one half a mile away, up (and I mean uphill) what is locally known as the 'black path' - that's because it's tarmacked, with no lights, and overgrown bushes either side. Ideal for a mugging.

Then the postmaster in THAT shop retired, and it was turned into a house.
Nearest 'local' shop is the overpriced Murco garage a mile away, nearest PO the other direction - halfway up the high street in Smiths - a mile and a half away. :-|

Pakistanis run the shop nearest to me and I notice their alcohol prices are very competitive - not that I buy alcohol very often - an odd bottle of wine once in a while

they also open on Christmas Day

Our corner shop is brilliant, wine deals way cheaper than Tesco. Other items competitively priced (current offer £2 for Haagen Dazs ice cream tub).

Plus, you get the local gossip. It's under 1 minute walk from our house so theoretically should be 5 minutes to pop there, usually gone half an hour catching up on the news.

We have a local newsagents/general store who had always been good value

its changed hands over the years but is walking distance for most of us .

It changed hands again in the last few months and the owners seem to be brothers who look like Pakistani or india . Both very nice polite men.

I went to pick up sunday papers today on the way to taking our mirabelle for her daily vet visit to get her meds given. I really needed too get some bread and a bottle of wine for our sunday lunch.

was wondering how to fit it all in as didnt want to leave our girl in her basket in Tesco car park.

WELL I looked at the wine and bread prices and wow both where cheaper than Tesco offers

I bought 2 bottles of Rose for £9 their price £5.45 each and SOOO much cheaoer than tescos

SO Supermarkets dont give you the best deals
