Oh Sharron, now you are leading others astray lol

Hope you find what you are looking for and also manage to treat that lady who helped so much for the funeral.

There is only one way to find out.

There are quite a few 'Old fashioned' (the number varies) sweet shops in Winchester. Would I be deemed an odd old bird and carted off, if I asked to smell their Winter Mixture? :-S

I did look on that site but they didn't look right either.

Can't deal with any more of that kind of disappointment.

My mum used to eat 'Winter Mixture'.
Gwyn's right about the smell.
They definitely need to be bought from a huge sweet jar.

I don't post much on General Chat board but being bored I was reading the threads on here and noticed this.

There is a website called "A Quarter Of" which sells old fashioned sweets and they do Winter Mixture:-

We might meet there.

That would be a pleasant day out, as long as OH is not visiting Hampshire that day.
Not sure I'd get there in time on a bus.

Thank you Gwyn.

We are thinking of coming over to Brogdale sometime.

The woman who was so helpful with the funeral, made the coffin topper, baked some of the cake and scones and generally kept you all in order, she doesn't think she did anything out of the ordinary.

She says she doesn't want anything for doing it blah blah but I know she is addicted to cheese and that little shop does some really interesting ones so I thought we might have a day to there sometime soon/

You coming?

What a disappointment.
Gosh I haven't had Winter Mixture for years. There's an old fashioned style sweet shop in town, - sells sweets by weighing an amount into small scales.
I'll see if they have any there and try some.

As I recall, there was a general smell of cloves / mints / humbugs...... and lots of striped sweets.

I was talking to OH the other day (I must have wanted something!) and I was saying how I never much liked Winter Mixture sweets when I was a child and wondering if I would now I am masquerading as a grown-up.

He had never had them and didn't know what I was talking abut.

We went to the Range today and, to my delight, I saw a bag of Winter Mixture so I bought it to share with him, the better to educate him.

They bore no resemblance at all to Winter Mixture. In fact, they didn't taste like anything I have ever eaten. They were horrible!
