Or an 'awful' snob :-D

I like dripping on toast (but haven't had it for yonks).
Kidneys and liver.
Fried tomatoes (or grilled).
Beans on toast.
Oooh yes, and black pudding, if the lumps in it aren't too big :-)

You used to be able to get pigs kidneys and I liked them but nowadays you only seem to see lamb's. Used to love heart but not had it or cooked it for years. I used when young and living at home with my parents, to like pigs' fry with chitterlings. :-D

What the heck is 'pleb food'? :-S

Sainsbo's sell pig's kidneys, I often pick them up accidently, instead of liver.

I think offal is sometimes much more tasty than expensive cuts of meat.

I also like dripping on toast, but tend to cook with oil now.
Marmite - Yum!

One thing I'm not too keen on, which probably makes me 'so yesterday' is pasta.
I also find river fish (eg trout), bland and muddy. BUT will eat almost any sea creature. Loved freshly picked - and instantly cooked winkles as a child.

OH likes fried Black Pudding, it makes me feel sick just llooking at it. I like Black Pudding uncooked, with cheeses, pickles and crusty bread. As I said before, its just a matter of personal preference.

paula,
when I was a young girl (many moons ago )I worked on a black pudding stall,
they were boiled and then taken out of the skins and put in a muffin,(bap, roll, or whatever you call them,as you can tell I came from Lancashire.
it tastes better boiled in the skin as it is not greasey.

I have to say it was a very busy stall, none stop all day on a Saturday.

just thought I would share this with you ,as the food everyone is listing is taking me back to when I was a girl.

Waves to Island... Coo-eeee....
Pleb Food, sweetie is food eaten by the "common" people and believed to be below the refined and dignified tastes of the so called Elitists.

@ Martynsue I am a Black Country girl, Black Pudding is part of our heritage, and nothing to do with Plebs or Posh. I will buy some tomorrow from Sainsbury's as a treat for my OH ;-) ;-) <3

Now we are benefit scroungers and I am having to save up for my tattoos and piercings, not to mention the pit-bull. I am using a lot of beans and lentils.

It is all a bit new to OH but I love 'em and he has two choices.

I would kill for a butter bean or a black eyed bean and it doesn't take much more than a few of them with a carrot, a spud and some onions to feed us pretty well for several meals.

Martynsue....would the market stall be in Bury by any chance?
They were famous for black pudding....in fact when we lived in Southern Spain we often went into Gibraltar to Safeways later to become Morrisons and my late husband ...a southerner....didn't understand when I said I bought Bury black pudding and thought I said very black pudding.
Used to have it boiled when I was young living in Lancs ...as well as home pressed cows tongue, liver, heart, corned beef stew which if cooked with lots of veg and nice stock is lovely.
.
Maybe I was brought up with pleb food....but it was healthy, and we knew what was in it..not like these days with a lot of supermarket food you don't know what it contains..
I try to avoid a lot of processed food with all the preservatives used these days.

Didn't have much choice during the 40's..never saw many overweight people like these days as we ate loads of veg and not much sugar! :-D

I think food snobbery is pathetic and is a way for the "snob" to mask their own inadequacies. You like what you like.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 25 Jun 2014 23:03

I always thought a food snob was one who only bought at the better shops, and branded only and wouldnt be seen buying supermarket brands,,,,,,,

food pleb is the ordinary man in the street who likes nothing better than a good plate full of good old fashioned home cooked plain food,,,,,,, with no fancy name,,,,,. with no fancy bits and bobs

I know a woman who is a food snob. She turns her nose up at corned beef (her list of peasant food is enormous).......... but she adores tabouli (however it's spelled)........ I told her it was Lebanese Peasant Food, and she wasn't impressed.

She also lists smoked haddock, which I love...... especially in a fish pie.

I'm not a food snob, but I really don't like offal.

LaGooner..... I like Vegemite on a toasted English muffin, with a poached egg on top :-)

Isnt corned beef different in Australia to what we have in the UK?

I don't think I have had it for about 17 years Since I had a bad attack of throwing up which found out was caused by gall stones and fatty foods didn't help
