They may be a private company who can, indeed, make their own rules up.

However, it works both ways.

We are private citizens. We can also choose whether or not we pay to stay with this company or, we can remove our subscription.

There are many other genealogy research sites to choose from and, it's often mentioned on here how few of us use this site for research - we prefer and pay for - records on other sites.

This link makes interesting reading:

No doubt this thread will be removed by GR, but no-one is above criticism - even them.

Exactly - no different!

THEY can, however someone has chosen to RR the OP.

There have been plenty of times we have put up ~~~~~~ threads and discussed bans in the 10 years since I have been on GR.

This one is no different.

He has been banned. It is a private site in that it is a private company (their own words). They can choose what they do or do not do. Simple.

Same as you Dame Shelley, reading but not posting.

John and myself exchanged PM's when he left the first time, so there was really nothing more to say, except that the PM's were not acrimonious, just the very opposite in fact.

The only reason I am posting now is very slightly off thread, but I've never been one to resist a challenge :-D

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Budgie Smugglers, our PM Mr. Abbot, has often been photographed wearing a pair (he is a bit of a fitness fanatic) although after the recent Oz Budget they should be renamed Budget smugglers.

That's what he did to Pensioner Concessions by cutting them back: smuggled them through without a word until now

Ann-
Why don't you organise us all into a proper protest with messages of solidarity on our Researching messages!

Or will that get us all thrown out? :-D :-D

I'm pleased we're allowed to air our views about bans now though......after all, we pay to be here and should be allowed to question decisions made by the people who receive a wage via the membership ;-) ;-)
