I think Andysmum "See you later" is a common saying and not to be taken literally but if you say your goodbyes to a single friend then it has suggestions of "not bothered if I do"
MotwnGal can see your problem I have something similar at the moment but am now at the end of my tether and think "getting too old for this .... get on with your own life"

Round here everyone says "See you later", which just means "Goodbye". It certainly shouldn't be taken literally! :-) :-)

Oh long story Nolls, much to long to explain here. I am in a far better place than she is, and try as I might not to, I feel sorry for her.

I would think that sort of comment would be from someone that is not close to you and doesn't really bother if she see you or not, but suppose it really needs body language too :-S

In so far as my 'friend' is concerned, it means

'I will see if I am free when you care to call me, but I may not be, but dont expect me to call you!'

Slowly losing my patience with her, and may not call at all!

Then I feel guilty because when I AM with her, she is always telling me how lonely she is!

Oh yep, know that one....it's a "I know this relationship means more to you than me so I am throwing you a crumb of hope, which I don't mean and you shouldn't believe, but I just don't want a scene, I may get in touch someday, but only if I need something and there's no one else I can ask"

But I am now a hardboiled cynic so don't go by what I say ..... :-D

I think it is a throw away phrase which is meaningless but leaving the door open just in case....or not wanting to be confrontational.....but feeling the need to say something.

Sometimes to me means occasionally.

Some time is probably one day, I don't take it as a brush off, although it could be but to know that I'd have to see the body language, know the situation.
