Hello
Armed Forces Day will be on Saturday, 28 June 2014.
It's an opportunity to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces,
It also allows the nation an opportunity to Show Your Support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to Service families and from veterans to cadets.
The National Event will be held in Stirling, but many more events will be held up and down the country in support of Armed Forces Day.
The UK Armed Forces defends the UK and its interests.
Not only during war, but also promotes peace, delivers aid and carries out
many other tasks to help people and communities in need
at home and around the world.

There's a good program of events planned for the National Memorial at Alrewas tomorrow which I hope to attend see www.thenma.org.uk
I vist at least once a year as served 16 years with the Sappers - we are Ubique!

Thank you Elizabeth for remembering.
Out here we are having Picnic in the Park. It starts at 16.30 and the music starts at 17.15. A DJ at first then live groups. It's on the sports area of a British service base out here.
Money for the tickets goes to service charities. I am going with 12 others and in a few minutes I'll be cooking the chicken. I am looking forward to it. Don't know when it finishes - we'll stay to the end and like last year have lots of fun.
It does have it's serious moments at the start to remind you why we are there. I served a little over 5 years in WRAF but OH did just 4 months short of 25 years in RAF.

"An undertaker has made an emotional appeal for mourners to attend the funeral of a former RAF serviceman who took part in the D-Day landings and died alone.
Sidney Marshall, 90, died at home in St Annes, on June 16. The former Rear Gunner has few relatives, if any, to attend his service.
The Undertaker has highlighted the veteran's heart-rending case and said he fears that the World War Two hero won’t get the send-off he deserves.
He is now asking for Armed Forces personnel – past and present – together with members of the public, to attend Mr Marshall’s funeral at Lytham Park Crematorium on Friday, July 4."
This is just an extract from a report the other day which highlights how well or otherwise some of our ex-service personnel are regarded. 'Miserable & lonely' is a description published recently of how others see elderly British society generally.
Mr Cameron might consider making a brief appearance, if he has little else to do.

I am not sure Mr Marshall would appreciate Cameron at his funeral, I wouldn't!. I am glad there will be people there to show respect, it's only right.
There can never be enough done for our Service personnel, whether in active duty or retired.

Hope you are okay.
Hope you had a good day, Pat and thank you to Dermot and Purple for their posts.
Armed Forces Day has been marked with celebrations across the UK.
Hundreds of veterans, serving personnel and cadets joined the Princess Royal
and the prime minister for a day of military demonstrations in Stirling,
which led the events.
A huge parade of services personnel of all ages started the proceedings,
marching from Stirling Castle to the event grounds nearby.
A Red Arrows display was among a packed timetable of entertainment.

Representatives of the Army, Navy and Air Force took part in the event, the centrepiece of celebrations going on all over the country
and at British military outposts abroad.

The day was also marked at Wimbledon, where services personnel
were honoured on Centre Court.

Meanwhile, the Queen attended a service honouring volunteers
who served in World War One, 100 years on from
the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in
Sarajevo which led to the outbreak of war.

Locally, our Tynemouth WW1 Commemoration Project went live. I've been a volunteer researching the men (around 2,000) on the Roll of Honour, fetching the names on memorial plaques to life.
We have an interactive database where people can look for their relatives and see the information found.
