As Mr Magoo says, people seem to be having mixed results. A number of posts imply that the 'free access' has already started!

Go to Ancestry's home page and scroll right to the bottom.
Against 'Visit our other sites' there's a drop down list for other domains or linked websites.
Choosing United States will take you to the .com site..............not they mention anything about free census access on the home page!!!!!

Can't find anything about it on Ancestry. However as Fri 4 July is US Independence Day and a Public Holiday, the free access probably ties in with that.

Maurice - its always worth looking on Familysearch.org for free access to the US census. If you find a 'possible' on Ancestry, members with a world wide sub are more than willing to give you the details. Just post a thread on Find Ancestors.
